I turn 33 this Friday and I've reached a point in my life where I don't see any benefits in drinking. It's all been negative for my life. I'm just tired of embarrassing myself. Falling over in public, smelling like booze and people commenting about it. Can't speak properly or staying awake. Stressing over logistics. I'm just over it. Not getting enough sleep and feeling like crap every morning. I'm done.

That's INSANE how our childhood traumas affect us! Im 40 now, my mother died a year ago from drinking, and she never admitted how much she was hurting me when i was a child. I have been drinking for the last 10 years because of those traumas that i couldn't forget.... That's crazy, but just one conversation between us would have been enough, but she never agreed to discuss it. So now... im trying to quit and im determined to quit. Because i can't live like this anymore, im just going down the hill. God please give me power this time, ive tried so many times... i didn’t get married, didn't have kids, drank...ALL because of my childhood.

Wow me and you are running a close race I'm 52 now and I sobered up at 49 and I thought I wasn't an alcoholic too because I always worked and had a house and car and other bullshit. I drank every day but not in the morning so I thought I didn't have a problem. Glad I realized I had a problem and changed my life. Best damn decision I have ever made in my life!!!!

I so appreciate ur transparency. I quit drinking over 25years. I didn’t drink everyday ever but drank on the weekends. I didn’t want to drink anymore out of nowhere bc it just wasn’t fun anymore. I questioned why did I drink in the first place and knew that our subconscious rules us more than the conscious. I also couldn’t stand my parents & always resented them bc of the way they treated me. I started watching lectures on toxic family dynamics and how it affects us. I read books nonstop, and realized I was a childhood trauma victim. I started realizing that I was drinking to numb my emotional pain. From the very beginning of my intense research I never desired alcohol ever again. My incest recovery had started also. Too long of a story but I eventually went no contact from my family of origin. In the past I would literally have to drink to be around them. Obviously that was ridiculous so I discovered being around them was triggering & it had to stop. Found out later that I have adhd, CPTSD & I’m neurodivergent. My family also made me the scapegoat of our family & I just said NO MORE. They were the whole reason I drank at all. Never went to AA. either. Realized very early on that the recovery places I needed to be were for my CORE issues not alcohol.

Ha ha, you certainly can’t judge a book by its cover. The last thing I would imagine when looking at this pretty and demure appearing woman is her driving her Harley drunk at 90 miles an hour. I’ve had similar experiences, and somehow survived, but I’ve lost my father at a very young age to drunk driving, and saw my best friend go to prison for vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. I finally smartened up in my 50s, but it took a potentially catastrophic sequence of events for me to come to grips with reality. I’m down to an occasional beer at this point, but I’m realizing that there’s no need for that. It’s time to just put alcohol away for good. Even if you’re not getting intoxicated, it’s just plain unhealthy. This type of content is very helpful.

It's funny how it goes full circle. I started drinking when I was in high school and it was fun at first because it gave me a boost of confidence I didn't have and then by my early 30s the drinking was hindering my confidence.

How much is toi much?? I don't even know anymore 😢 and I'm not talking beers. I'm talking hard liquor. My breakfast was vodka shots and went about my day. No family around. The shame and guilt is unreal. I somehow managed to keep an entire family together. Drank by myself. Entire bottle of vodka and hiding it. Got up, drank did my job and kept going. I'm still intact after a severe epileptic attack thaf I'm terrified of and I know why that happened. Went back to alcohol to kill the fear but now me actual fear is the amount of damage has done to me. I'll get through this.
