Where other characters have started to lose their appeal, Abe is still the same feisty, disturbed, mentally unwell, and undoubtedly senile crackpot that he ever has been and we hope that'll never change. Looking back at some of these old jokes, I just realize how light-hearted and almost innocent the Simpsons look in comparison to many modern cartoons. Even children's shows such as Teen Titans Go and the Animaniacs reboot are more cynical and mean-spirited compared to older adult cartoons like The Simpsons or King of the Hill.
