Amazing episode. I have a copy of Herodotus' Histories in the attic and have had no inclination to read it ... until now.

Hekataeos of Milete is the Cassandra of the Histories. He warned twice against the war against the Persians en if the people in Milete had been careful, Herodotus' book would not have existed. Hekataeos said in his Geographia, that Egypt is a gift of the Nile. I imagine, that Herodotus read his books om his visit in Egypt and then wrote, that everybody could see, that Egypt is the gift of the Nile. When Tom Holland says, that Herodotus hated Hekataeos, this is not understandable to me.

That last story about the eunuch... George RR Martin must have read Herodotus, one of his characters (Varys - "The Spider") has the same story.

Love this channel BUT for us mere mortals they do need to set scene and lay out the theme in a simple way, at a high level, before diving into the details.

Herodot is a persian from the Polynesia-islands, and Homer is the humor story for us? Phenicians, sailers, gave the name of our continent-Europa, coming from Evrika meaning-look, land!...? Wich is the first notice of the name of Europe and how does it look like? Greeks and Jews had only consonants and the vocals weren't noted, teached us at the easy school, but...yes...should try more in the past ? Thank you.

Bad translation...henry he ate, the others killed them, like Ilya- his mother by birth and his father for grief, or, just run away so he killed them like the son who was lost and...found again...on the bottom of a fountaine full of ...waters, oil, salt, copper, silver, gold, what is deeper? The smile of the end.
