I'm curious whether I should apply more varnish after I remove the rivulets, but before I apply that light coat of polyurethane What do you think?

I guess the risk is you’d want to avoid a darker spot, which if you add more tinted varnish it might happen. My advice is to look closely and see if sanding brought the surface back down to the wood. If not then just the light coat of poly should do.

You didn’t say anything about bubbles while applying the poly.

Thanks for the heads up. Yes be sure to stir the poly slowly and apply cautiously to avoid bubbles. If you have dry bubbles on your surface you can use the same method I've outlined in this video.

@@DannyTimesI experimented with using a MAP hand held torch and it seemed to work very well. It’s not the heat of the torch, it’s the carbon dioxide that’s supposed to pop the bubbles.
