Hi Granny Pat! Your story brought back memories of my own. Before me & my late husband married, I had what I called a Hope Chest filled with little trinkets in preparation of my “hopefully one day” wedding. (I hadn’t met him then) Then we married 7 months after we met, in ‘76. I was 16 (& like u were, I was a skinny mini @ 97 lbs) & he was 18. I still have our first grocery bill receipt from a little country store in Arkansas, where we were both raised. Getting us started for the first week, with the staples, like salt, pepper, flour, cornmeal, oil, a few veggies, some bacon, eggs, some canned goods & even a little apron! 😊 Total cost $17.47! You could barely buy the bacon & eggs for that now! That was almost a half century ago! Wow. Thanks for opening up some memories I haven’t thought of for so long. Have a wonderful week you beautiful lady!!

I, too, was born in 1956 along with your daughter Jan. Life has certainly changed. I've even seen wedding invitations where you include a payment for a fancy dinner along with your RSVP. Absurd! There is a reason people cry at weddings. It's not always what people think the reason is. Thank you, granny Pat, for the memories and reminders. Times with greater appreciation and gratitude made for happiest times. Those two traits seem to have vanished from modern culture. The new me, me, me, society.

Hi Granny Pat. This video was excellent. I was born in 1947 and you spoke of what newlywed life was like in those days. I did not have any idea nor did I fully understand the sacrifices of those starting out. Times were simpler then but loaded with obstacles and difficulties that I did not realize. I appreciate your honesty in speaking of your time as a young newlywed and becoming a Mom. It sure speaks volumes as to who you are as a person. Not once did you complain about things that transpired. Thanks for sharing and as always your story was real and shared with heart-felt purpose. You looked lovely in your pink. Well, I listened to the whole story. I always enjoy your stories. I’m 65. I remember some of the stories. My mother told she was born in 1926 just before the depression she lived in South Georgia. there were five girls and one boy and I remember my mother telling me that when she got married at 17 my dad who was from Wisconsin had gone and rented the house he was in the army air corps. Well when my grandfather found out where the house was, he wouldn’t let them move in. He said it was a bad side of town so my dad and my mom moved in with with them. But I guess it helped to motivate them to get a place with their own sometime, but you know it had to be crowded but I have nothing but good memories of my grandparents. They had a giant house when I was a kid It was two stories. It had a full basement and it had a walk in attic. I never got to go on the basement ever got to go into the attic, but I had dreams about what the attic muscle look like my whole life occasionally, I still have those dreams because when you can’t do something, you can’t go somewhere you wanna do it more. I’m sorry I’m long-winded but your story just brought up some of my memories❤
