Align 3gx full setup video 1 (freddy can fly)

This might be an older video, but its priceless to someone like me that JUST picked up an Align Pro, completely built and ready to go but I have no info on it. I was told it was hoovered twice and put away. no crashes. It has many upgraded parts as well as all the upgrades. It is NOT flybarless. I may convert it to flybarless but need someone that knows this stuff better than myself.

Hello Freddy, I have always flown the ar7200bx and know it so well by now that I hardly need the set up manual anymore. I just bought a used 700 DFC with a 3gx. I watched some other set up videos and was intimidated by how complicated the programming seemed. I found your series on the 3gx and with your help I was able to get set up on the first try. I just wanted to thank you for a really great and easy to follow instructional. Keep it up!

Hi Freddie, To save you time, ignore my previous question regarding the Pitch servo cyclic response. I've just been told that the Trex550E-3GX manual 3GX wiring instructions are wrong, at least for Futaba Rxs! (see page 17 The yellow & purple wires need to be swapped.) Maybe I should have looked at your 550E build videos, but I bought the heli already assembled.

Very Very good video. I have the 3G system but looks to be same process for setup. When you are finding the mid-point (50 in - 50 out) on the radio, are you in Normal mode, Flight(idle-up) mode? which mode? Thanks!

You can set pitch curve to be all 50% at all 5 points then you can be sure you are at mid stick no matter what is the stick position. Thats what I always do when setting up main rotor head.

Freddy, First thanks for taking the time to help our fellow heli people. Completed my 550e dfc heli. Set up 3gx as per your videos. (3gx 2.1) Throttle/pitch are linear - mean vibration when getting to mid throttle - shakes down to skids - bounces around on ground--any ideas? Thanks

Great video. Clear, concise, and very informative. I just put together a 550e and I'm trying to set up the 3GX. The problem is that even when I'm in DIR mode, when I raise the throttle the motor spools up. I have no idea why, any ideas? I have a separate BEC which is supplying power to to the 3GX, but when I remove the ESC to try to do it that way, I get an error on the 3GX and can't do anything. Any suggestions?

Great video series Freddy - Top Man - Could not have completed the set up of my Align 500 without them. One question - I am using a DX6i radio and cannot find the SW Select option on my radio to set my giro to Aux2. Can you help ??

your normal mode should be as follows ( this is a starting point fine tune from here) pitch -3,0,+12 throttle curve 0,40-50,70,80-90,100 linear is not a good normal curve for proper head speed. also make sure if your vibrating your make sure your blades are not to tight, also make sure your main shaft has no up and down play. no bent parts and your blade tracking is spot on. if vibs persist check your dial gains

Excellent set of videos. One question is on the 3GX manual it says near the beginning to turn off the Swash mix Function. I don't understand why you would do this and you didn't on your video.

i have watched all 4 parts plus your 2 gyro vids and i have to say they are the best for helpful and valuable setup information that no instruction manual has got.i have just built a trex700E DFC together with dx8 .Please answer this,with the 3GX ,during the setup of the swash endpoint sequence the swash responds in the tests easy to see,but after initialization is complete and the swash jumps up 3x the helis swash doesnt respond with as much movement as in previous tests in setup mode,is ok??

hi, so is it normal for a servo to go back to center slowly when i use aileron or elevator? i thought it suppose to respone fast like in your video. the servos move fast back up when its in DIR mode but not when its normal mode.

Yes in the setup modes the Gyros are not active so they are not looking to counter balance so the servos will act as if there is no gyro. Once programming is exited the gyros are active, and if the Heli is just sitting there they seem to behave oddly because they are following the programming and waiting for the Heli to move so it can correct it.

i binded my receiver and its fully working. Its just the 3gx that wont lit up at all no sounds and crap like that. what you said, does that mean that i have to bind my 3gx to my tx as well? i thought thats only for satellites.

First, thanks for the great videos. I'm trying to set up a Trex550E with the 3GX & would be completely lost without your series of video guides. As it is, I can't get the correct operation of the pitch servo in cyclic unless I connect it to the throttle connection on the 3GX. This obviously can't be right, but I've checked & tried everything else. The set up is a Futaba T8FG Tx with a Futaba R617FS Rx.. Any ideas Freddie? Many thanks

you can use sat with reciver ex (ar8000 + sat dsmx) sat with sat ex (sat + sat both dsmx,dsm2) using 3gx or for a small heli just use one sat with 3gx all options are trust worthy :)

so you shouldn't put the servo horns on until your radio is on and at mid stick? cause in my manual it says to put them on during the build... but then how do you know if the servo travel is centered?. in other words you could place the servo horn at 90 by moving the servo gear physically when its on the servo... this is hard to explain...

You can easily center a servo without physically powering it thru your rx. Just designate a spot of the servo's travel that you desire to be the 'center' and make sure that the maximum sweep angles (in both directions) from that center are symmetrical. If you're building a kit and haven't got an rx for it yet, its a hell of a lot easier to do it this way than to tear out an rx from something else.

for a 550e i would use a 5000 mah pack with and like a 35-65 c disscharge and 6 cells of course

Weather starting to break so here comes the questions. Just want to make sure i am moving the right thing. About to set up a talon 90 on a Futaba T8FG Super. Can you explain Setting up THR - difference between - Limit VS Travel in End Points? It sounds like the two do the same thing. Your servo will go the same distance, Limit it to go this far, Limit its Travel to go this far. One has to be set as low as you can so once the battery is connected once you increase the value one notch at a time until a beep is noticed. That way the Talon 90 learns high and low.

I watched your setting up throttle and pitch curves videos. i have a DX7S, according to your video I should make the Normal mode throttle curve as in your video right? throttle menu has N,I,H. i am just getting back into the hobby after a 6 or 7 year break i got a grate deal off ebay on really nice a trex 450 v2 it came with a futaba t7c radio and a g4 sim i also picked up a good deal on a used 450 pro dfc i came with a 3gx flbls and an airotronics dual satellites, i replaced the satellites with a futaba r6303sb receiver i got it to boot up the servos move around but that is as far as i got it doesn't seem to respond to the inputs properly can one of you guys walk me through the proper setup procedure ? i cant find any videos with a futaba t7c radio thanks jim

hmmm very strange. could be a vibration issue check for any vibs. also u may have maybe a cut or exposed wire some where that is shorting or something. also double check you fbl system programing as well

Made sense that you need to make sure radio is at half stick and servos are 90. You would be suprised howmany guys dont even bother. I got my heli on a trade for an extra300. I am going to tear it down to the ground and build it back up because I have no idea what was done as to the build. I will replace all o- rings, clean and lube all parts needing such. Being its over 5 years old, I want to check everything out before flying it.

First when it comes to you a person feels intimidated your knowledge is out of this world. My question for you is this. I have the Futaba T8FG - Super, I am using it for a Trex 550e with the Align 3GX. And the Talon 90. Following things on you-tube i think i did something wrong. I see on line that in order to let the Talon 90 know there your Throttle setting is you at first have to go to the radio and get to the End Point and scroll down to the Throttle setting (3). Now i have on one side 135 - 100 (on Left) and 135 - 100 On right. The 100 i set to the lowest value that was 30, then did the same on the right. I put the stick on the TX to the high position, plug in the Talon and begin to scroll up in value until i hear a beep (@) that point just go up two more settings then, put the Stick on the TX to the low position & repeat the above. here is my problem, when i hit the throttle hold and plug in the batt, things look OK. Now i come out of throttle hold and spool up (blades off) everything is fine. When i begin the spool down, it slows and when i get to the bottom of travel it does not stop. just keeps going slow. The only way i can get it to stop is flip the throttle hold. What is going on. Hope someone can give a little incite.

yes one of two things. first try doing a re calibration on the talon just to make sure you set it right. after do a spool up and drop the stick down. if the motor still turns just go into the travel adjust and slowly bump the low end until it stop or shuts off and your good to go :)

fred my 3gx wont power up i attached all the wires into the 3gx correctly from the receiver and when i turn my heli on only the receiver that shows life but 3gx doesnt make a sound nor light. im using dx6i and ar6115e on trex 250. help.

Hi, I'm building a 250 dfc and its finished now but i can't get the end point's right in the dir mode When i'm in the dir mode the 3gx should program the end point's but the elevator end point is way to far out when i'm leaving the dir mode... When in the dir mode the end point's are oke but when i'm leaving the aileron is oke and the elevator is pushing so far that the main shaft is moving. I own a DX7s and reversed one servo the aileron and in the swashplate menu all 3 on -60 H.E.L.P

oh yes this is normal, in dir mode when ur setting up ur endpoints and corection direction it is showing swash movement with full movement, once u exit into the main startup menu (three jumps on swash) you are now seeing what may seem to be little movement for both ail and elev because ur picking up the gain values from the 3gx. if u need further help or explanation of this feel free to call or tex me at 801-654-2803 thanks buddy
