If I may make a suggestion on finding the center of anything that is fairly flat. I was trained in the 1960's as a commercial artist ( back in the day before it was called graphic arts on computers). Lay a straight edge ( either a ruler or anything staight) on the surface from one diagonal corner to the other and draw a faint line near what you think will be the center. Then do the same on the other diaganol corners. You will then have a cross which is the dead center. Two simple, quick, accurate movements without the need to use a measuring tool. For a round surface like a rock you can use a string to do approximately the same thing. I hope this might help. When I was working we had to get things done fast and any trick of the trade helped. 😊

This was so insightful. Most other videos I've watched, they're too concerned with waving and clacking their freshly painted fingernails! I enjoyed the entire tutorial, and, thank you for the option of NOT following lines all the time! I go more by my feel (cause I'm a rebel like that). I'm painting my first rock as I was listening and watching your tutorial. They will now be part of my water feature (my design and build)!

I've noticed that people either enjoy me talking out the process. Or they don't like hearing me talk. That really feels like it's fifty fifty. But I have always felt a video is difficult to see really. What the person is doing or thinking... especially with design work. Also I feel like it helps to say things like. I'm pushing down harder on my brush. Or now. I'm picking up the brush. Cause you can't really see that in the video. I've tried to make that my goal to do in every video

I started trying mandala dot art on rocks with my adult kids. We did it by using a video which wasn't really meant for beginners. Got a fairly decent result and we loved the process. However, I am a hopeless perfectionist when it comes to trying to do art of any kind. So began to seek more education from books and other artists videos. This beginner video is the first one to give me sufficient info that I can now move on with confidence in this medium. Thank you so much. Will watch all your other videos as I progress.

that is wonderful to hear. I probably should do some updating...this was a long time ago. I have learned a few other tips myself :) The art community is very helpful. Welcome :) I really feel like it is wonderful time spent.. We love painting in our home and friends love coming to visit and paint with us.

My first Madala I threw into the river, the second I figured wasn't perfect but would put it in my rock garden but the third I am quite happy with. Such a relaxing craft and your video's started me on this art form. Using the brushes will take a bit more time but trying.

oh no. I hope someone finds your lovely river gift someday. Brushes do take a bit more practice as with anything new. But it is still a relaxing journey :)

Excellent video for beginners Miranda and those of us who like to refresh the basics in our mind. Well done for keeping in mind that not everyone can afford to go out and spend lots of money on paints etc. to start with.
