Again, great video! I’m still a novice at filmmaking and I only use iPhones. I’m excited about the evolution of mobile filmmaking. I’ve been recording video podcasts, short films & docs with iPhones since 2016, so seeing you guys produce content on this level exploring mobile technology is exciting! It’s just a matter of time before iPhones are respected on large film sets.

Aces!!!!! Great video. We need this on the FCP desktop version and an update for the Camera app for the new 16 Pro series.

great info on the iphone camera. The processing on the still photos is too much, I often get solarized looking highlights that are impossible to correct later. I feel like the lenses on the 15 also flare much more than the older iphones, which could be the reason for the green tint on the center camera.

Great! Can we use any other camera apart from iphone to connect all in Final Cut Pro? Like suppose we have a insta360 or something else. That would have been so great!

Is there a way to shoot proxies? File size would be smaller and you could shoot in LOG. My second question is about camera app: have you tried FilmicPro?

Wish I’d seen this before using this last month, one thing I’m confused by is how yay replace a file that didn’t transfer properly but after shooting you get the file off one of the iPhones that were used and try to replace the low res version being used by Final Cut for iPad?

8:45 Are we sure the lenses/ND weren't to blame for the color shifts?
@Strada-Tech3 ай бұрын
ND played a role, yes. But when we had the same ND on different cameras they white point wasn't always the same. But yes, ND exacerbates the issue even more. Good eye:)

love final cut and the idea of easy multicam workflow. but the look of the iphone-video, looks like from a phone...
@Michael_Cioni3 ай бұрын
Ha - it definitely looks like a phone! But for some situations, that's what people want...or need. I just got back from Amsterdam and we shot tons of BTS and the phone was the perfect camera to capture all our impromptu stories. (and we would have gotten in trouble shooting in some places with any other camera). But if you want a phone to look LESS like a phone, then check out Episode #23. That is a different look for sure! Thanks for the comment:)

Mike, I was just curious if you're consulting at all on 28 Years Later. It's being shot all on iphone 15

Nope. I'm excited to see it, too! But it just shows that the world of smartphone cinematography is evolving quickly - and I expect 5 years from now for it to be a very different landscape than today. Thanks for the comment!

@@Michael_Cioni do you see iphone catching up in dynamic range?

This is great! Will there be a similar video using the Blackmagic Camera app? They have a multicam workflow as well with more granular control. I’ve run into the same multicam issue. I’ve theorized using a seperate network for the cameras to communicate to without interference from other devices would help, but haven’t had a chance to test this theory. I was going to test using a GL-AXT1800 travel router, as it’s most likely what I’d use on set.

We did an episode with BlackMagic App and anamorphic (Episode 23) but we didn't have the multicam back then. So maybe we'll have to do another one! I have some ideas:)
@vincentpolisi3 ай бұрын
@@Michael_Cioni I came here to ask the same question. BlackMagic eliminates the Apple Log issue and is a much better app in my opinion, especially since it's going to be edited and color graded (by us) in Davinci Resolve anyway. So, if you're making a list of video topics, +1 for this one.

So if I shooting a 30min multicam podcast video with 4 iphones in proress log. I cannot do it continuously because of the file sizes? I thought that fcpx for iPad make proxies which you can edit right away after the filming and original files will be transferred in backround to ipad external SSD. So it can't run like this or what is the problem? If it can run like this maybe you know how much time it will take to transfer 30min footage from 4 different iphones to iPad with external SSD?

Film with the camera (of your iphone) that costs half as much, but buy rigs and rent lighting equipment that exceeds the amount you saved with your iPhone. Apple Marketing claims…
@Michael_Cioni3 ай бұрын
I'm sure we agree that good lighting is critical to improving the image of any camera. But the reasons I did this test wasn't to save money, rather to experiment with the simplicity offered for a 4-camera shoot (which traditionally is much more complex and expensive). I certainly don't think iPhone is good for everything, but in some situations it's ideal. For example, rigging the top-down angle was 100x easier on this than any other overhead camera I've ever rigged. I love trying new technology and learning from it. Thanks for the comment!
