@crxracer98328 I've been building old audi 4 cylinders for a long time now, solid iron block is 83 lbs. They are super fun to build and play around with. Takes all the boost you can shove into em day after day. I'd love for a decent American 4 banger to exist. Basically everything "new" is weak plastic motor trash that can't even take a slight boost bump with a stock turbo before exploding lol

To everybody speculating that this engine block is based on a Chevy 6 cylinder, read the sign behind the display engine. It says, "external dimensions similar to a 3.0 liter GM". No cylinder removal is necessary if you just start with the 4-cylinder block. That engine family was introduced simultaneously as a 153 4-cylinder and a 194 6-cylinder in the 1962 Chevy II. Then in 1963, they introduced a 230 6-cylinder with the same bore and stroke as the 153 along with the tall-deck 292 truck engine, which used the same 3-7/8" bore but increased the stroke from 3-1/4" to 4-1/8". The 6-cylinder was last produced in 2001. The 4-cylinder Vortec 3000 marine and industrial engine with 4" bore and 3.6" stroke was still in production for at least another decade after that. Also note that this is not an Iron Duke, which is a completely unrelated Pontiac engine that was introduced in 1977. History lessons completed, the sign behind the engine also says it has a 9.145" deck height, which is the standard deck height for a 153/194/230/250. The tall deck height of a 292 is 10.875". I would think that a slightly taller deck height, maybe 9.7", would be desirable to allow a 6.25" connecting rod to improve the rod to stroke ratio in this new engine. Whatever the case, it's a completely new aftermarket block based on the Chevy II 4-cylinder, presumably with siamesed cylinder walls. The lifter side covers are gone, and the deck is completely open above the camshaft, so I'm assuming it uses LS lifter carriers, and it obviously has an LS head bolt pattern.

The SE-R was the perfect platform to make turbo charged, it would have beat every Civic, Cavalier, whatever you name from the factory at that time, wouldn't have stood a chance. Back in the day, I was involved in hydroplane racing. There was a 150ci class that mostly ran Chevy II motors, injected on methanol. They made right at 300HP. I knew this old mechanic and he modified a Chevy II block to accept a SBC 2.02 FI head. That boat won every time it showed up to a race! He dyno'd one of the motors and it was making 345HP! Their Atlas engines get it done. Vortec 4200 straight 6 is good for a reliable 700whp on the stock bottom end. They also make a 3500/3700 straight 5 and a 2800/2900 straight 4. Scaling that power figure gives you roughly 470whp for the 4-cyl and 580whp for the 5-cyl on stock bottom ends. And really, the weak link is the rods, which I believe have aftermarket forged options already available. There ARE pistons available, but they're hyper-eutectic. Don't get it twisted, though. Aftermarket performance hypers and casts are still stronger than factory casts and factory hyper pistons. It's just that MOST people spring for forged when "building" an engine for "big power" so I assume that's what "you" will want. Which "they" don't have. *_YET._*

the japanese market would be the same as it is because now wed have the american v8's and 4 cylinders still broke down. also the v6's too so japan would just have furthered their lead in the worlds best cars. i used to be an american muscle car fan but idc about chrysler or ford these days and i wouldnt piss on a newer chevy if it was on fire. at the end of the day when your building a motor or a race engine. the last thing you want to see is made in mexico or made in china. thats where most of our motors come from in the "good ole us of a."
@josefrobbins8781
@josefrobbins8781 Жыл бұрын
@@chehystpewpur4754 My statement was hypothetical, but I should've clarified it better. What I meant to say was...If America did these type of 4 cylinder configs the Japanese Market would still be prevalent "everywhere else around the world"...but not in the "American market". Let me put this into perspective to better understand. The American 4 cylinder market has been riddled with faulty starts, and wasted potential. The prime Examples is the Chevy Vega having a faulty start, and the fact that all American inline 4's and 6's had Reverse/Contra Flow Heads Until the 2000's!? From an economical and sales standpoint, the only truly successful 4 banger America produced was from the Model A... So why was Japan successful? Simple--> Biggest reasons were cost, efficiency, durability, and reliability. Aside from the efficiency stat, this was something America could've easily achieved while still playing their own game. The truth is GM, Ford, or Chrysler never needed to make their poor imitations, because all they had to do was take advantage of their parts bin. All GM ever had to do was halve their Big Blocks such as the 454 into a 227 or 3.7 inline 4! Forget about putting a 227 inline 4 in cars, that engine would be big enough to move a full size pickup no problem! Also, here's one other factor that could have won customers over to the American 4's had they made a Big Block 4 like I just mentioned, and --> and if they included a "Cross-Plane Crank". Face it, Americans love a Burbly/Roaring sound to their engines and ironically...Yamaha's success with the R1's Cross-Plane is proof. So lets be real, the biggest reason for the hate on Honda's, Toyotas, and Liters bikes in the States and the car scene in general is their exhaust note. TLDR: America shoulda made a parts bin Big Block inline 4 with a Cross-Plane crank from the beginning, and it would've put US auto manufacturers on equal footing with Japan's 4 cylinders within the American market.

Utilizes affordable mass produced items to make it work. (Starter, flywheel, bearings, cylinder heads, rods, etc) Put a turbo or torque storm on it it will easily make north of 500hp and weigh 100 -150 lbs less than a SBC. Curious in the mounting angle, would it have to be mounted at a 45 degreee angle due to the LS intake port design and it originally being a 90 degree v8 and mounting as a typical 4 banger the A/F would have to flow up hill into the intake port. Or would this have noticeably no affect. Idk maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in here lol

According to the company's press, this engine is just "Vaporware" for display purposes. What IS interesting is that the LS head replaces a ford 302 head on the existing product; cause an LS head does pretty much bolt on to a 302 engine block.

@Mavo1989
@Mavo1989 Жыл бұрын
@@MrChevrolet94 For our street cars we have strict rules and engineering standards, so as an example if you were to own a skyline as an example that series of car the largest engine capacity which came in that model was a 2.6 litre RB26... With our rules the largest you can go is 20% larger in size and if that original size was naturally aspirated and you wish to have it turbo it only allows 15% as you also have a power adder. In this example this would reflect in having a max capacity allowance of 3.1litres thus why you see that many Aussie or Japanese and other brands only make to a 3.1 litre stroker... They brought in these laws as really the manufacturer went through millions of dollars of RND of the chassis and engine with also crash testing and the application of brakes and suspension to suit that configuration. It is a way for them to ensure that the car is not going so far outside it's boundaries from manufacturer design. Now I know that is also a wash because add a big turbo more power and this blows out that but they also ensure that if your power levels go excessive that all suspension and brakes are upgraded to meet the requirements. It's alot of hurdles to jump through and an actual mechanical engineer has to tick it off and sign off the works for a certificate to allow the registration.. it can be a pain but if you work with the engineer from the beginning and layout the plan or project it all gets ticked off easily... There is also a special class we have which is individual constructed vehicles such as hotrods or cars prior to 1978 which is before emissions which allow us to have alot more freedom but still have guidelines, a V8 bigblock is no problem as long as it meets those guidelines
