@@wigletron2846 Actually technically speaking the little Pinto is much quicker than the Vette. The Vette still has a far superior top speed. Drag racing has much more to do do with the quickness of movement forward from the starting line. The Pinto's weight break is greater than Vette's horsepower advantage. It's all about the power to weight ratio. Bless you

I had a 1971 Pinto in 1975. It was my first car. My brother and I competed in everything from bicycles to cars. My poor little Pinto received a cam, headerrs, DP distributor, cold air intake, traction bars and of course some wheels. My car had the 2000 cc engine which was a beast. It was such a sleeper I have raced several cars with V-8's and buried them. The lightweight car would leap off of the line like you see in this video and everyone was trying to catch up all the way. I called it the "Mean Pinto Bean"!

Buddy Ingersoll had his Pinto Turbo car running Pro Stock et's in 80's. He'd reset class record near weekly and raise the index. I asked him why he didn't sandbag to maintain his advantage and was told the means didn't exist (like now) and had to keep the pedal pinned. NHRA redid turbo classes rules , making him non competitive for Comp Eliminator and he was gone He started with a Pinto . Later bought a Warren Johnson Olds he put a Buick regal nose on. @@tg2963 Chevy is now putting a 2.7 liter 4 banger in their 1/2 ton trucks in lieu of the 4.8 v8 which they used for years as well as the 5.3. The new 2.7 High Output is turbo charged and is putting out over 300 hp and 400 foot pounds of torque. Better HP than the 4.8 and better torque than the 5.3. Our company just bought the first one of these this week. They been doing it for a long time. there was a HOT ROD magazine. that had an article in it called 1000 HP for 1000 hours. where they built a 2300 2.3 L Pinto engine they balanced the rotating assembly and used forged Pistons put a cross flow D port head on it, with a high lift Long duration cam. and used a mechanical fuel injection from a Mercedes Benz and fabricated on to it and a turbo charger and ran it on the Dyno at 1000 HP for 1000 hours it was the cover article in the magazine. I believe that was in the late seventies, or early eighties. you could probably research it though HOT ROD Magazine and where Is live there are guys that build these engines. to use on the local NASCAR sanctioned circle track. they only allowed to do certain things to them per NASCAR rules. they can do light m machine work, they can use the D port head, they can raise the compression ratio. they can use an intake manifold with it certain part number. and a certain camshaft. and a 500 CFM Holley carburetor and a header. and they can get 300 HP out of them they are unbeatable on that track. and they have been doing this for quite a years. the 2300 2.3L Pinto engine is a hell of an engine. they are durable and make really good HP. they are one of the best four cylinder engines ever produced.

I love the way that Pinto hops up on the launch and takes off like a bat out of hell. My dad had 3 Pinto's (71, 72, 74), and all my siblings including myself learned to drive on them. Why so many Pinto's? Well, 3 kids going to college all within a year or two of each other. My dad would drive them for a while and hand them off to my older siblings after their Freshman years. The 71 came recycled around to me (I'm the youngest) when I was in High School my sophomore year. I drove it only for a year before my dad got rid of it and bought a Ford Futura (inline 6, had some power but didn't really pull because of the weight). I had fun in that 71 Pinto. Really learned how to drive a stick shift and rear wheel drive. Later on when I was out of college and working full time I had an Acura Integra (88) with a 1.6L DOHC 4 cyl. I surprised a few people with that car, and it handled very well (wide wheel base and low to ground / center of gravity). Still drive little 4 cyl cars to this day. Nothing like a peppy little 4 banger.

Owned a 78 Pinto with a turbo charged four banger (2.3L). I've had it up to 180 mph, so I have no trouble believing this because mine wasn't nearly as tricked out as this one. It was white with blue flames and got me a lot of teasing, until it left almost everything in the dust. Then it got me a lot of respect. 😂🤣

Love that Pinto...I bought a 71 in 74.....just joined the Air Force and had to trade a 66 GTO and a one room A/C for rent I owed so I had to get to CA somehow (started of from Suffolk VA)......well made it to the mountains in Gallup New Mexico and that little block (nicknamed the "metric engine") set up just couldn't handle it....bent every push rod, blew oil like crazy, but made it to Victorville CA....traded it right away.

@@jeffkrall5074 That was my first Inline 4, 1974...... I build 4's and 6's for drag racing Jeff.....1971-73 utilized the Kent X-Flow 1600cc inline-4 push rod, the only one out of five gasoline inline 4's that Ford built that has push rod-actuated valves.....

@@ajwilson605 I had orders in hand to report to my first permanent base, Mountain Home AFB Idaho and right at the last minute I get a call I'm being diverted to George......all my goods were already sent to Idaho of course....long story there getting them to George...lol. Anywho, had just finished up at Tech School at Chanute AFB Illinois and went to George, worked on the F-4's, 105's and 106's.....Non Destructive Inspections which came in handy building all kinds of stuff to race at Ontario Motor Speedway....raced right on the straight away of the monster oval track....at this time I mostly built/ran Mazda rotary and Wankle powered LUV pickups.....Let me tell you, rotary is awesome and fast....so are Ford inlines.

I wouldn’t change a thing, maybe window tint because I would love to drive it as a semi daily on the days I’m feeling froggy. It looks fantastic from the paint, fit and finish, the wheels and tires are perfect I can’t think of another combo that would look better!

I used to let my best friend occasionally use one of my car's for a date just to do something different. I fell in love with a little Pinto he had and I was driving a 70 SS454 Monte Carlo. While he was on his hot date in my gas guzzler I was out running the curvy back roads in his little go cart. I had more fun than a barrel of monkeys opening up the secondary on the two barrel constantly. Pisses me off when people bash the Pinto.
