Once upon a time, I received a copy of Pokemon FireRed. Instead of delivering Oaks Parcel like I should have, little me decided to go towards the left and explore. A wild green Mankey appeared, but I had nothing to catch it with, so had to run. After watching chuggaaconroy's crystal lets play, I found out what a shiny was, and became upset about what had happened with my first ever color swapped monster. I have yet to reclaim that mankey, and I've been paranoid every time I begin a new game ever since.

Using a calculator, you had a 1/3 chance of catching that shiny caterpillar with a great ball So that means there was a 1/243 chance of failing that shiny caterpie and you did That was incredibly unlucky

My first shiny was also in Crystal. It was a weedle in the Ilex Forest and I had no idea why it was green. I was able to catch it but I think I ended up overwriting that save at some point as I didn’t realize it was anything special. I think it may be time for me to go on this same quest...

This Intro story is so great to me because I had a similair story too (when I was a child). I was in the backseat of my Mum's car, fighting with my brother whilst playing pokemon Gold Version, and I came across a Shiny Zubat in the 'Ice Cave'!. At the time I didn't make much of it, because I was in 'Ice Cave', I thought it was just some Icy Zubat, I was new to the game and very uneducated on the game so I didn't think it was a big deal, I had no Pokeballs on me, so I just fled the fight. It was only until a year later when I discovered the rarity of these shinnies, that I regretted that moment. Coincidently when I was older and in highschool, I was playing Pokemon Silver Version on an emulator, on my laptop, during school class. And I randomly came across a Shiny Delibird, that was ALSO in the 'Ice Cave'. I have good luck with that 'Ice Cave' I tell you. Watching this video makes me want to relive these moments and go Shiny Hunting in the 'Ice Cave' again, maybe I might get my Zubat and Delibird back. Hunter X Hunter is my favourite anime of all time, so I loved the HxH song you played in the backround during the intro. Either way, thankyou for the entertaining video, I really enjoyed watching it and I was really happy for you when you found your Shiny Pokemon. x

I remember my very first Shiny Pokémon on Pokémon Silver and it was a Shiny Koffing at Burn Tower and I didn't even know that Shiny Pokémon exist when I was kid until now. During my teenage years I was trying out my brother's Pokémon Platinum and I was using the Pokeradar. Around 23 chains on a Mr. Mime and I found patch of grass that was sparkling twice and I was curious at that time so I went to that patch of grass and I was shocked and surprised to a Shiny Mr. Mime in front of me and I caught it. I was so excited and determined just to find more Shiny Pokémon. Now that I'm 23, I've been finding and catching Shiny Pokémon in my life now. Shiny Pokémon Rule! :)

Glad to see you got it back after two fails... i know the feeling of a long lost shiny, its painful mine was a Suicne in XD Battle SIMs, so at least you got a chance, I reclaimed it but not in thrid gen so I want to catch it there through Colosseum. People who shiny hunt without a plan are the worst. There is such a thing as you know.. False Swipe, Thunder wave, other Para or Sleep inducing moves, and actually having a lot of ultra balls

But did you know that in the second generation, for some programer's mistakes, the status effects weren't supposed to help you catch Pokémon, they all were reversed and do nothing to high the Pokémon's catch rate.

Not sure if this is any different in the gen 2 games, but I would've tried to stall out caterpie with politoed's rain dance and mewtwo's recover, to see if you could get caterpie to take some recoil damage from struggle before throwing a ball. Great job on the metapod though :D

this is so funny cause when i was a kid i had the same thing happen except i was way dummer. i ran into a shiny rattata im the first route and i thought i was weird but just a rattata so i ran away from it. at school the next day i told me friend and he told me OFF cause i passed up on a shiny so i went back to the same little patch of grass and tried to find it for days but never did and then when virtual console gold and silver came out i was running back to get my togepi egg and i completely randomly got another shiny rattata!! i caught him and he became the star of my team i cant believe he waited for me all those years lol
