Tapu fini is Crazy good, but Prima is doing so great partially because of its flexibility since It got Psychic Noise, and has better sp atk and sp def, so It can run specs, scarf, sub + draining kiss, calm mind... Fini would be great, people would run calm mind, scarf or defog, but I wouldnt describe Prima as Fini lite tbh. Just this OU tier of gen 9 has benefitted Primarina in a way that it can thrive like It didnt the previous gens. In National dex, a fan made format in showdown so everyone can use every pokemon with new mechanics, Fini is barely used at all, and Prima, although not used that much, has still better usage. Honestly, my gen 7 pick would be Koko, feel like It would be the best choice for both VGC and singles. I want to give an honorable mention to Zapdos for being a close runner up for best gen 1 pokemon. The only pokemon to have an insanely consistent 28 YEARS of OU viability, with the only exception being gen 5 where it was UU one and only one time. Funny thing is, it was still very viable in OU, it was an amazing rain wall breaker with stab Hurricane and Thunder, it just wasn't used all that much because Thunderus was as well, and Zapdos's higher bulk was simply not as important as the 11 point speed difference between the two due to gen 5's insane power. This does not apply to any other generation though, where Zapdos outclasses Thunderus in every way using it's superior defensive stats. Zapdos is the longest standing OU viable mon in history, and is the only mon to have never, ever fallen below a C tier placement in all gens of OU, it's lowest point being C in gen 5. When it comes to VGC performance, Zapdos is viable every gen until gen 5, where it's outclassed by Thunderus, who then gets outclassed by Tapu Koko. I think dragonite still deserves the win for best gen 1 mon simply because of VGC performance, but Zapdos is certainly the runner up. Edit: Also want to mention I think Talonflame as a gen 6 pick is absolutely insane. Obviously you can't give it to Greninja cause it fell off hard in gen 9 and didn't exist in gen 8, though it was an absolute menace in gen 7 and 6, and it generally sucked in VGC. The same applies to Aegislash except it fell off in gen 8 singles instead, and it's VGC viability was fantastic up until it fell off like a rock because of the insane increase of good dark types. Talonflame falls off hard in singles in gen 7, earlier than both, but is significantly better in VGC so it should win. EXCEPT HAWLUCHA EXISTS!!! Hawlucha was phenomenal in singles in gen 7, ranking higher than monsters like Mega scizor & dragonite and even Pelliper, another mon on this list, and despite not being OU in gen 8 & 9, it was marked B rank, well above a lot of other pretty good pokemon. In Doubles, as long as there is Terrain, there is Hawlucha, and with the Tapus & boom around, he's not going anywhere. He acts like a win con you can't escape and have to play around and you NEED to have accounted for, if you see a Hawlucha on the other team you literally have no choice but to bring something for it else you risk just losing the game outright! Simply having Hawlucha on your team forces your opponents hand regardless of if you bring it or not. It's certainly no Urshifu or Flutter mane and isn't going to be dominating the format or anything, but it still does something almost entirely unique that nothing else can do, and it's a powerful technique at that.
