I think my favourite element of your videos is the way you show us when things go wrong, and how you deal with them. You make mistakes (rarely), you take responsibility, and you show us how you deal with it. We learn SO much more from you because you do that

Jerry, I've learned a lot from you about setting up acoustic instruments and so much more. I am proud of you for being such an impeccable man, you are showing us the good, the bad, and the ugly! Everyone makes mistakes, and I've seen you actually make very few. But when you do have a mishap, you own it and take responsibility to make make your customer whole again. The gentleman who owns the mandolin was accommodating and understanding, I believe that I would have been too. It doesn't help the situation to get all ugly in the face, and throw swear words around. It's best to just take a deep breath, and LISTEN, then evaluate the problem and it's solution. You did the right thing, and told the customer what happened instead of covering it up in silence. You are a man of great integrity, Jerry, I appreciate that in the people that I deal with.

It's an awkward thing being an Earthian. No matter how dang hard we try to be perfect, we will make mistakes, and accidents will happen. Painfully, we always fall somewhat short, somehow...be that with arts, or skills. Your honest, emotional pain/anxiety, was obvious. Your transparency in dealing with it, was not what has (unfortunately) become "standard issue" these days, but rather, highly exemplary. Your repairs always are great, and this "Imperfect Jerry" repair is no exception. My guess is that you'll be dealing with this customer repeatedly...this is meant in the best possible way, of course. Many helpful hints, and professional insights...another great video, thank you, good sir.

As a member of that very large choir you were preaching to, when I don't get a glue joint perfectly tight on a segmented wood vase, the lacquer does its very best to make it as visible and difficult to repair as possible. I really hate to say this but I'm glad I'm not the only person plagued by this gremlin. It lets me know I need to focus on my gluing technique to avoid problems rather than focus on finishing technique. Thank you for bringing attention to it.

Love what you did on this fix, all of it even the blooper. It's not a question of whether or not bloopers will happen or not, it's a question of when they will happen. Being right up front with it creates trust which you deserve. This makes your videos all the more valuable. Thanks for sharing with us. God bless. I didn't notice a real difference in volume with the new nut, however; the new strings have a brighter clearer tone than the original strings. The original strings sounded somewhat subdued which makes the volume sound lower. To me the sound is definitely better with the new nut and strings.

I love the fact that your company is called a String Works rather than something with “luthier” in it. I know it may sound petty or silly, but String Works sounds so much less pretentious. Although I am hopeless as a musician, I have actually learned so much from binge watching your videos (is there any other way?) that have actually helped me when dealing with a couple of single string gusles (one from Croatia and the other from the former Yugoslavia) and a violin. As a result of watching your videos, KZbin has suggested several other guitar craftsmen. Although their videos are interesting they cant compare with yours for entertainment value. I especially enjoy it when you have music playing during time lapse sequences.

Jerry you'll probably never see this but I'm going to comment . First as some viewers have said ,to use a drop fill applicator on the end of the CA glue to get a more precise flow into the crack .Also I would use the thinnest CA glue for this repair . Actually I might just use Titebond thinned out . It causes less damage to the finish . Now I also saw a tip from Dan E. at Stew Mac about hardening the CA glue and to use the vapors from the accelerator rather than spraying it on . He pours some into an empty bottle then empties it out . Just hold the empty bottle near the glued area . This way it never touches the finish but allows the vapors to do the work . I understand you now realise the StewMac accelerator works much better and doesn't cloud up the way the other brand you used . I posted this here for other viewers to see and might understand a better way to apply this fix . Jerry I know this mistake bothered you terribly and I am in no way blaming you . It can happen to anyone . I feel you did a great job in repairing this instrument .

I haven't even seen what happened yet, but just wanted to say I appreciate your honesty. I've worked with very reputable repairmen that were not honest with misshaps that happened in their care on an instrument that today is worth about 35k. It's always sketchy when a repairman "finds" damage on an instrument that you just went over with a fine- tooth comb before it entered his shop and then not only does he "find" a sizable and obvious crack, he fixes it before I had a chance to inspect it. Never fessed up to it, and tried to charge me on top of that. There was another ding on the top associated with the insident that he hadn't seen yet and I brought it to his attention. He had little to say at that point. I didn't pay for the repair. I won't get screwed arriving and leaving so to speak. Things were never the same after that unfortunately.

Just an observance on the scraping the seam after paintwork. Having done autobody work most of my life, this is the same basic method that is used in spot painting. but done with sandpaper to taper the repair edge before applying any finish or primer. Blending the new into the old instead of trying to fully level to the old paint. While I have not tried this on an instrument, it may be something that would make the job easier. Scrape your edge with the blade to get rid of the shelf before applying the lacquer and then a fine sanding after wards with a finger block to finish blend. Just a thought that may work for you.
