I find it somewhat comical that humans are judging how good a fake turkey call sounds. Do you think somewhere turkeys are judging each other speaking english?

I can totally see people seeing this as comical. Turkey hunters (callers) know the calls that turkeys typically respond to. Contests like these judge how well these guys are able to make those sounds and sequences. A lot of us, like me, are average callers. These guys are on a higher level. I’d love to be able to call that well. I’d be more successful. See it work (or not work)in the field a few times and it makes more sense.

Like moose calling. They all do the long Loooooong female call that dosent end… my good friend and my old Biometrics teacher where the researchers that made the studies for the moose calling « seasons » and time of estrus here in Quebec. They spent from spring to winter in the Matane reserve and studied the moose’s vocalisations and all. The only times they heard that looooooooooong loooooooooong call that you see in the contests was when a female was NOT responsive to a bull, and that they where very aggressive toward them and where chasing them away.

I use calls. But I have called birds in with my natural voice mimicking calls. And killed them at 15 steps
