This is the video I tell all my fellow hunters to watch if they want to learn how to use a mouth call. I'm continuously surprised at the number of hunters that are not aware of the individual air flow characteristics. If I could only recommend one turkey calling instructional video, this would be it. Thanks Shane.

So glad I found this video! Have talked with different call manufacturers at NWTF convention nearly every year and they all say just move your tongue to left, right, or center to get the sound you want. Have bought many brands of calls and watched many videos on diaphragm calls. I sound good but not the way I want too. I’m 54 and have been turkey hunting 20 years and wish to the Good Lord I’d found this video sooner! Excellent job at going into depth all the ins and outs. Will save people money on wasted calls. Finally someone has a CALLING to teach instead of pushing their product! GOD bless you and keep up the excellent work. Will be telling my hunting buddies about this video!

I have been practicing for 2 weeks watching other videos, and I couldn’t figure out how to get the right pitch. The best advice I ever got, was the angle placement. I have been moving the call back and forth around my mouth and unable to get the noise. Thank you for that detail that a lot of people leave out.

This video is what I’ve needed since I watched so many and ordered many different ones never getting the explanation you’ve share. The details are exactly what’s needed for a beginner. All the others just say try making a noise and in time you’ll develop the call. Well not really not the correct call in my case. You’re high low explanation showing the tongue movement to determine air flow to determine what particular cut call needed was exactly what I’ve been searching for. I have bought so many guessing and swapping up daily and getting frustrated. Man I really appreciate your in-depth videos. Just Subscribed and hope you have more to watch! I need to order your uncut call.

I've turkey hunted and run calls for ages. I've always been horrible, horrible on a diaphragm (having spent likely hundreds of hours trying) and so I've just always run pots and trumpets. When I did run a diaphragm the only thing I could get even remotely decent sound out of was a standard V cut. After watching this video and hearing your idea about the off-center channel of air I took two of my old V cut calls and took one side off each to make a combo cut and reverse combo cut. Found out pretty quick my channel of air must, like yours, be running left of center. That reverse combo opened up the front end. I'd pretty much given up on diaphragms for everything except close-up purrs and clucks to finish birds. Going to buy me a couple reverse combos now and see if I can't get better. All that to say, thanks!

9:35 - FINALLY someone shows the proper position in the mouth, rather than just saying "put it on the roof of your mouth and angle it down" (yes, I know he said this too in this video) ... but is "roof and angled down" making the call perpendicular to your tongue? 30 degree angle? 10 degree angle? Thanks for showing the proper position inside of the mouth

When determining your tongue channel are you looking for the air channel on your tongue and if that is left or right of the crease on your tongue or if the crease on your tongue is left or right of center on the actual diaphragm?
@ShaneSimpsonHunting
@ShaneSimpsonHunting 5 жыл бұрын
You're looking for the tiny tunnel in your tongue that air comes from when blowing the call. If there is a visible gap, then that's your air channel.

Thank you so much for the video. I’m a little confused on how to tell where the air is going for you. When looking, will your tongue literally list to the left or right or stay level? Or is there something you can see on the call to tell which “channel” you fall into left/center/right?
