So nice to see Clarisse Cremer aboard L'Occitane in the mix. She is a lovely young women with enormous experience. It's great to hear she is enjoying this grueling unrelenting expansive and epic contest. Merry Christmas to all but mostly to Pip after her horrific accident.

Pip Hare has done a magnificent job, will IMOCA learn from her experience? Wasn't she "fortunate" to get dismasted where she was rather than having past New Zealand. The outriggers have a real place as part of the jury rig. Pip has the outrigger on the deck, it's a shame that they don't specify a socket on the deck for the outrigger end ball to sit in as an emergency mast step. The storm jib is part of the rules and fits well, they could also require marks on sails to allow the cutting of the jury mainsail. Meanwhile we all wait for the latest "slow boat to Melbourne" to download. She's getting 50,000 people watching her progress.

I am wondering whether such a scenario was part of a training beforehand. Either way, this solution is very impressive. If this solution was purely improvised, I am deeply astonished.

I am referring to Pip Hare's improvised rig.

Nice, tactical battle for first and second. Two different boats, designed for specific sailing conditions. Intriguing contests to Cape Hirn and beyond as weather patterns change. More favorable conditions for Pip with fair weather and top speed of 7.3 knots. Staying positive, some competitors adjust to missing the wind, routing further to avoid stormy weather.

About 8pm local time the leaders will pass Cape Horn. They generally nail the twelve hour weather forecast. The leaders will pass Cape Horn in a squall during daylight. 30-35 knots of wind.

As the old reggae song says, “That’s right, the women are smartah.” Well done Pip and Clarisse.

James, why are you not sailing the virtual race. Virtual Regatta. You can still start today, you will be placed at 50% and start racing. There are 761 000 virtual sailors. I started at 370 000 from the front, and today 39 000 after weeks of stop start weather in the southern ocean. It's an education

Local time at Cape Horn is GMT -3, and so it is 7:11 pm. The boys are on track to round in the daylight. It is Richomme to the Horn FIRST, barring any huge bumps in the night. Yes, for the non sailing Yanks, South America is shifted to the right. With the next sched, the vendee maps will show they passed the Horn.

They're done by KZbin automatically, but I think they take a bit of time to process. I'll keep an eye out for when they're ready and reply.

When Pip's boat is fixed, will they need extra crew to help transport it back home??? I'm free that month.

I have no idea of her diesel fuel capacity, but at some point couldn’t she use the engine?
@RoyalMail4018 күн бұрын
She addressed that in one of her earlier videos. She has very little fuel (160 litres) and needs a quarter of it just for electrical generation. The boat is very slow and inefficient under motor power, like 3 knots, and progress is only possible in a flat sea. She's keeping that option up her sleeve. Consider for instance if she was being blown against some rocks.

The leading racers are ON TRACK for passing the horn BEFORE 8PM. The breeze has been very favorable overnight. Remember sunset is at 10:16 pm. And so rounding somewhere around 8PM will be done in broad daylight. ( The leaders are actually ahead of this schedule. Best be conservative.)
@MrTrapper2818 күн бұрын
Not before 8pm but probably before midnight. Dalin will be second (to CH) but may well win the Vende Globe!

There is too much focus on Pip Hare (Abandoned) and all the other back markers, 2 minutes for Analytical perspective on the mammoth task ahead in the Southern Ocean and South Atlantic Ocean going up the inside of the Malvinas Islands. The best approach is to use the Vendee Tracker and Predict Wind to examine the +72-hour forecast.
