What a mindset! 1.Dismast. 2.Fix it. 3.Shed the tears. Then ...."how fast can I get this boat to go"? 😊True Pip. ❤

What a symphony of good sense and seamanship. "I love the person that it makes me become" should be a motto for all sailors.

So so happy that Pip decided to share the slow boat odyssey with the whole world I think will all learned the nuts and bolts of a jury rig and resilience in a stressful and depressing situation. Just a class act !

Nice interview with Pip. She credits Sam Goodchild for the inspiration for the jury rig setup. But I think it also shows how she is always thinking ahead and wanting to learn as much as she can from any situation. That's seamanship.

Fantastic responses from Pip, maintaining her composure, professionalism and love of the sport. Sounds like Matty Johns as the interviewer, who didn’t do too bad for a Rugby League player that probably doesn’t know much about sailing, although he was looking for a dramatic sound byte

The IMOCA rigs are at extreme stresses - designed to be robust enough for the race - but not overdesigned - and rigs do come down as Pip shared today - her strength, willpower, "positivity," and experienced seamanship came through beautifully in the interview. Oh, and the leaders are 6nm apart, and the Vendee could end with a week shaved off too. Great video Sail-World - thank you!

Thanks so much for the extended Pip interview because it contained a significant lesson about one's life - one is responsible for it and one must rescue oneself in which we place ourselves. How amazing is Seb Simon with only a port foil - I watch carefully when winds permit a starboard tack and off he goes! Amazing.

Pip really is incredibly inspirational and has taken full responsibility for her own learning and happiness. Winning is not holding the trophy, but doing your best every single day! What a hero! I will miss her daily videos now; they have been far more interesting than the race itself! Thanks, Pip!

Pip is so amazingly impressive. She immediately took decisive, corrective, action and saved her vessel. Without any hesitation, she took full responsibility for what happened while explaining all she did to counter, and prior actions to prevent, the loss of the mast. Then, on top of all this, she freely gives Sam the credit for her being able to erect the jury-rig! If only she could teach executives to adopt this type of can-do, I accept responsibility, while crediting others, attitude.

There is a danger that people do not see through Pip Hare's modesty to appreciate her seamanship. She took her dismasted boat through 30 knot winds and 5 metre seas to safely after buiding a jury rig. She sailed a broken boat in conditions which would scare the wits of most sailors! Her calm charismatic steely determination means that her bravery, ingenuity and skill will sadly go largely unnoticed by the public. She is amazing.

Whoever did the Pip interview asked rude questions. "Who's to blame?" Really? "The riger?" Really? "Was it worth all the effort..." Really? Such negative questions for such a positive person. Way to go Pip!

If I were to blame anything for the dismasting it would be the foils - they make for an aggressively brutal ride - but that's what you trade for speed.

So what was it exactly that failed, causing the mast to come down? What was the first domino to fall? The carbon itself, halfway two fixed points? A stay?
