I like recycle asphalt and millings. They have. 60/40 blend of RAS and millings that lays good and you can rake over with landscaper rake once you get a few heavy rains the stuff level out and starts to pack in. I spray around where it joins the sidewalk or patio edge with used engine oil.

Hopefully you are putting the asphalt millings 4” to 6” thick and adding a binding agent. Also rent a vibrating roller to pack it down. Will last forever and look like regular asphalt. Been doing this for 48 years.

Adding gauge wheels behind the rake teeth and then letting the rake float will eliminate the roller coaster effect that usually shows up with a fixed 3pt rake position. Angle the rake more and comb the edges in. Then set the rake to zero angle an run down the center to get a nice smooth, crowned/cambered roadway. A rake should be wider than the tractor wheels when it is angled at 45 degrees. Otherwise the tires intrude on the pathway left behind.

We used millings for the parking lot at the fire station. The crew dropped the stuff, graded it and then rolled it with a very light roller. I looked it over and said, no problem we can use our "roller" on it. Got out the tanker and really rolled it in. Amazing what a job that truck did, but it does weigh in at close to 30 tons when it has 4000 gallons on. Oh after it was in for about a year we coated it with a layer of chip seal. Made it a real nice lot and seems to be holding up very well over the past 10 years or so.

@This1LifeWeLive5 ай бұрын
They do that on our roads up here, but the machines are not too common so you only see them once in a while. Likely the companies that have them wont' bother with a small job and depending on how bad it is, you could contact an asphalt company ti see if there's a way to 'fill so many cracks, or if it needs to be scraped up, taken away and crushed put down :)

Just did a 150' road widening project on a turn in our half mile road around our lake property over the weekend. Posted video, not the greatest angle and the sun didn't cooperate with me either. At 19 min there's a description of my land plane and at 25 min camera is on tripod. The asphalt company I deal with calls the material processed or screened. One can get it unprocessed off the road too and some use that for a base, especially when it can be gotten for free at times from the same company. I wouldn't advise it for a top coat. Very rough and doesn't spread well with chunks as large at stop signs.

Through the winter while ag contracting is quiet we lay those chipping for farms that want tracks repaired, some years cart an lay over hundred ton of it, we always find it best to roll either with a small road roller or heavy grass roller after its layed as it compacts it better an during the summer it melts together better. If it's only light traffic going on it then you should see around 10 years life in it.

@This1LifeWeLive3 жыл бұрын
We actually have been using it for the last 5 years and have had none of those issues. Since it's ground up road, and each state makes it a bit differently, maybe that's why he's having the issues. Ours will harden in the summer, and in cooler weather become more like gravel. We grade ours out about once a year. It will get a few dips (not quite pot holes) and we grade them just like normal. water drains off it within minutes though, so it's been a total game changer for us.

It's about the same as limestone well outside the SW Chicago burbs. Even my friend who owns a limestone quarry likes it better for pvt drives vs. CA6. It's not dusty when it's dry and it's not "muddy" when it's wet. Also grades well when wet. Used to get 3/4" processed chips, but they've been 1/2" minus the past few years and I really like it better. Compacts from driving on really well. I've personally used near 1000 tons of screened/processed asphalt chips. Have used a 66" rear wheel smooth drum compactor a cpl different times and it helps, but there's no binder(and I personally prefer it that way on a pvt drive) and it seems to loosen back up. Just grade it out the best you can and drive on it. I haven't posted a vid all summer, but will be widening a turn on my road starting today and will post one next week.
