After watching the summer games fest, It sparked my memory of the days when Gaming Magazines and Demo disc's flourished. Those were some of the best days in the gaming industry. One thing I loved was how open game studios were about their development process. We'd get behind the scenes information, images, teasers about projects. Where nowadays almost all game studios are so Silent and secretive that it's painful. Especially since game development is taking much longer since it's basically become a trend for every game to have absurdly bloated development costs.. We don't see the array of different game projects that include smaller games, wacky games, 3D platformers, extreme sports games, AA games, etc. Etc. All stuff that used to be common place in the gaming industry. All of this I miss so much from this era where demo disc's and gaming mag's ruled the world. I find it so weird that we are in the Future. With tech we've only dreamed about compared to the tech that was available during my childhood in the 90's. Yet the games that were made during the previous game generations are the ones that are proving to be made with BETTER overall QUALITY. Games seemed like they used to have a much better understanding of what players Liked and what was genuinely fun to play. Even tho they couldn't make games that had online abilities, They somehow found a way to make games that had much more replay ability to them. We used to be able to play a game, or even a DEMO over and over because they found ways to do what mattered well enough with the tech that they had at the time to make their games enjoyable enough to keep jumping back into. I miss lots of aspects from previous game generations. Growing up in the 90's. It really felt the future of gaming was going to be awesome. It wasn't just about graphics. It was physics effects, art styles, a range of gameplay modes, gameplay mechanics, damage effects, environmental interaction, engaging AI to play against in single player mode, CPU bots in offline modes. Current games seem to focus so much on realism & graphical nitpicking to the point where it can sorta ruin the game. Did they forget how much players enjoy physics effects & other aspects that add depth to a games fun factor? Weird, low poly, 2.5D 2D graphics can work, if they use a creative art style. What happened to additional gameplay modes, the list goes on.. I really don't know why this had to happened like this?

I would like to see a battle sim type game that combines the elements of Dynasty Warriors and Kessen. You command squads/platoons/companies/battalions of troops in battle; directing them to locations and points of interest on the battlefield. You can also take command of member of the unit(possibly the unit commander or some leader of sorts) and fight to help out that unit and once that fight is under control you can transition to the overview and go down to another unit to assist them - all while keeping an eye the overall battle. This type of game can be adapted to any era….from medieval battles, the Roman Empire, ancient Middle East, Japanese and Chinese empires, to modern battles like WWI and WW2, The American Civil/revolutionary war, to games like lord of the rings and etc. Battles can be based off of history or completely made up scenarios. I think there’s a huge potential for that type of game.
