Redemption Road the devs behind Kingmaker have a fascinating video where they describe their revolutionary graphics engine. Those swarms of enemies are actually *2D sprites!* In a nutshell, the enemies are pre rendered from 8 directions and the 8 sections are rotated to align into animation instead of bogging down the GPU with millions of polygons. They say thousands of enemies can be generated in this fashion. Its not my type of game TBH but I plan on getting it to experience the technology. Plus its another very small core team of 4 or 5 very passionate and creative guys.

Meifumado - The sword focus combat where the enemies blades parry as much as yours strikes is exactly what I like to see in these games giving combat more of a careful but fast action approach twist. Yasha: Legend of the Demon Blade - Has some arty effects that remind of Demon Slayer in the floating camera perspective and looks to do justice to that vibe in this genre of action rogue-lite. It feels awhile since you last posted about this one and good to see it's back again and nearer to release potentially. Demonschool - Has that anime story the video game vibe and artistic expression and seems to cover a lot of bases with story, intrigue and tactical burn-based squad management combat... another awesome one popping back on the radar from previous videos. Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus - Another big hitter: Movement, Timing and Action! This one looks like it's got the lot with sumptious art animating these core ingredients of all the best Metroidvanias. One of the best of 2024? It's hotting up in the competition rounds! Core Keeper - Completely missed this: Sandbox crafting terraria style with friends? Looks like the definition of "Playability With Friends". Blade Chimera - A suite of varied attacks is exactly what Metroidvania's need to stand out in a field so jam-packed so it looks refreshing to see some mini-combos to defeat different enemies and fingers-crossed a skill curve involved. Tactical Breach Wizards - Looks like a modern update to Frozen Synapse on steroids and magic mushrooms for extra creativity. Just looks like solid indie gaming tactical combat gold... Windblown - Looks like the next great roguelite to topple Hades tbh: Really distinctive, individual art design and rapid combo action dynamic suggested with the fallen Leapers. Yikes or Crikey it looks good! UFO 50 - Love it! If you can't beat 'em then make all of 'em instead approach. Destined to get your bang for buck with 50 retro-fun games rolled into one title. Too easy to win with such stakes as even 1/50 good game at worst and you'll feel like it was money worth spending.

Not only are there settings similar to mass-produced medieval fantasy or science fiction, or art designs that we have seen everywhere, but there are too many game genres that are very similar.

Bou: Path of the Teal Lotus and Blade Chimera were my favorite demos from the Steam Next Fest, so I am now very much looking forward to their full releases. Seems like each Team Lady Bug metroidvania inches its way a little closer to the Symphony of the Night influence that appears to be a cornerstone of inspiration for them, while also improving a bit on their own formulas, which is all just fine by me. Before the Next Fest, I didn't expect Bou to be anything more than another uninspired Hollow Knight clone, and hadn't bothered to wishlist it as a result, but after checking out the demo (only trying it to round off a total of 30 total demos played lol), I was quite pleasantly surprised to find how wrong I was about it upon seeing how much polish, personality, and originality it apparently had of its own... Also, very glad to finally see a release date for UFO 50. I think I've had that one on my wishlist since first seeing it in a BEST Indie games video way back before I can remember now (I think something like five or so years ago lol), so I guess good things come to those who wait, and to those who watch BEST Indie games videos for the better part of a decade, of course... Keep up the good work Clemmy.
