I gave a homeless man $200 on Christmas Eve. The next time I didn’t even recognize him. He had a hair cut, dog food for his dog (so cute) and managed to have enough money to get a job. He now has his own place, works as the manager for a grill type restaurant and hires any homeless people over others. It literally made me cry to see for once, someone else happy. Helping people in need is not only necessary, but it makes this place that we all live on better for everyone. No matter who it is, a homeless person (bum as a lot of people like to call them (how disgusting)), elderly, injured, etc. we all should help them to see another HUMAN happy. Who knows when in life you’ll need it back.

I'm a wildlife rehabilitator. I've had hunters bring me injured wildlife. They've stopped their hunting trip to save these animals, telling me there's a time to hunt and a time to save another injured wild animal. I'm a vegetarian, but these incidents still humble me. And one of those hunters gives what he catches, to others who need and will enjoy his food.

A few years ago, I was walking down the street in the city I worked in. It was lunch hour, so the sidewalks were busy. Came to an intersection where a frail elderly woman needed to cross. A group of 3 other guys and I, all in business suits, walked in formation around her and escorted her as she crossed. It was like she had her own secret service detail for two minutes.

I had a friend on a wheelchair, and I helped her many times. Sometimes she was just lonely and even if I was tired, I would go to her house just to keep company. She passed a few years ago. Her parents came to the town where I live and told people I knew to not tell me they were around. It is interesting that people you help a lot many times get used to, take you for granted and don't give you any credit. Some people you help just once many times are really thankful and appreciate what you do.

The wallet story reminded me of a similar story with a different outcome. I was on vacation and while walking along the sidewalk found a wallet. Opened it to find credit cards, DL, all the usual. Took the time to find the guys phone number and called so they could get it back. When I called and explained the situation I was accused of being a thief. I explained to the person that if I stole the wallet, I would not be calling to return it. They continued, I hung up and threw the wallet and its contents into the trash. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.

Same thing happened to my dad. At the time he was working as a janator for a community college. One day he found a wallet and found a phone number in it, so he called the owner. Like who would steal and then tell people where you live?!? smh

i will always help an animal before i even think of helping a human. we are so ungreatful and wrapped up in our own world and just walk right past some one in need. Now an animal will thank you in it's own way and you will know when it happens that it is honest and genuine. so yeah i am not too keen on helping my fellow ,man animals are at the top of my list. i have helped people before and not even a thankyou.
@_Y.Not_2 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't be helping people and expecting a thank you, do it because you want to and the feeling it gives you to have done something nice for someone else then you won't be disappointed, help the crabbiest person out there, you never know what people are going through in their lives. Altruism with an expectation of return (even a thank you) is not true giving. I agree with you about about animals tho, it is their vulnerability/total innocence that makes helping them an extra nice feeling.

When you give to someone in need, the Lord God will smile upon you and bless you. You will always feel better in your heart when you help those who are in need. No human being grows up wanting to be homeless and hungry. Whether it be circumstances beyond their control or by bad choices on their behalf (we all make them), these people need our compassion and assistance. Just think, one day it could be YOU or a LOVED one in need.

This reminds me of the time of the time I was 10. I was walking back home from elementary school and an old man from the other side of the street, that was leaning onto his car asked me, if I could come over. He wasn't looking well and breathed heavily so I decided to get to him and asked what he needs. He said that he is having a heart attack and just wanted someone to hold his hand, since he didn't want to be alone. After a while he said that everything was alright now and send me home. Everybody I told this story said that I shouldnt go to any stranger that is inside or near his car, but I am really glad that I didn't run away back then.

Many years ago while in town shopping a homeless lady was sitting in a closed shop doorway with a dog. When i passed she asked me if i could get her a cup of tea from a shop further up because they refused to let her inside with her dog and she tried to give me a few coins for the tea. I told her to keep the money and wait a while and i'll be back. I went and bought her the tea and some food plus i went to a pet store and got her dog a feeding bowl and some food and water for both of them then went back and gave her the things and some money so she could buy some stuff for herself later. She was crying with relief that someone was willing to help her so much as most people she asks for help just walk past and pretend she's not there. I saw her a few more times and always made a point of stopping to chat and give her some more money and spend some time petting her dog. Then one day she just disappeared and i never saw her again. I hope that's because she turned her life around and is no longer living on the streets.
