Ive compared many different reloading manuals and Lyman generally has the slowest velocities/lowest powder charges for calibers i reload for. I always compare at least 2 different books. Nosler seems to have larger charge weights and uses a 26" test barrel for most cartridges.
@jh5869Ай бұрын
@@patrioticguy1791 thanks for watching. Now days, it’s hard to find my bench for the reloading manuals. I don’t have the Nosler book, and I’m really cautious of the Lee book. I like the Hornady and the Lyman manuals. I have QuickLoads and triple check with the online resources. We’re blessed to have so much data at our fingertips.
@patrioticguy1791Ай бұрын
@ we do have a lot of data available. Of course, Nosler bumps up max powder charges, and velocities on their cartridges, and of course, Hornady does the same with theirs. If you look at 280 AI Nosler has some pretty high velocities, but Hornady doesn’t. If you look at the 6.5 Creedmoor it’s the opposite. Hilarious. it’s just those particular companies promoting their own product I guess. Lyman, Sierra, Lee companies that don’t actually have cartridges with their name on it are definitely more neutral.

Had to get my Hornady rounds re-done due to California "no lead" law so found some copper .358 in 160gr they are plastic tipped hollow points.. Hope my shop loaded them right for what they are.. Deer hunting and anything else I may use it for.. My Marlin is a 1950 336 chambered in .35 rem and I love this thing, hope to pass it down to one of my 10 kiddos some day as they all love shooting it.. This is what was written on my box from my shop after reloading Hornady cartridge IMR 3031 @ 35.4g 160gr raptor extended range Fed 210 primer

Buying the stuff to load myself and learning all that I can, just taking it one step at a time so for now, writing down a list of what's needed to get started as .35rem is impossible to find again unfortunately so, I have kept all of my brass for when the day comes that I need to reload and it seems that day is here now...

I understand! Sorry I missed your comment until now. Not getting YT notifications like I should. Yes Sir, components, especially primers, are all but extinct. That seems like a really good recipe. I would love to hear how they shoot.

@@jh5869 it's ok, I understand the notification issues for sure lol.. I haven't shot one just yet, they gentleman that helped me with this didn't have the factory crimp die so, I will have to get one to lock these projectiles in place as I can easily pull them by hand so I was told by another lever action enthusiast not to load them in my rifle, just shoot them one at a time but, instead I've decided to wait to get the die and crimp them to save any issues.. learning as I go, I have almost everything needed now to reload these on my own following the very specific process these first 40 were done in, I can't wait to fire a couple off and see how they do.. I am new to reloading and refuse to give up on my .35 as everyone keeps telling me to, I saved every bit of brass I've ever shot so, I have about 250 rounds to reload myself this time and keep... thank you for the reply, very much appreciated

Nice video! I do note that you never seemed to use your calipers to recheck the OAL of your finished rounds...? Do you typically run any dummy rounds through your Marlin's action prior to calling them good (or through a case gauge)?

Yes I do! I guess I should show that on video more, but I also chamber test them outdoors before they go into the "complete" box. Thanks for watching and commenting.

My 1970, 100 th anniversary 335 chambered in 35 Rem slugged at .357” and the shortest OAL length on the same lee cast bullet I measured was .3.353” I loaded mine at 3.350”. I can barely see the micro grooves in my unfired cycled loads. I powder coated and gas checked mine as well. My alloy is 50/50 clip on wheel weight and pure lead mix with 2% pewter added. I want them soft so they expand on thin skinned game. Bh twsted 10.5 with my $60 lee harness tester. My plan is to work up a some loader tests all the way to max jacket loads and see if I can get acceptable accuracy. I polished the inside of my lee .358” sizer die so it sizes at .3595”. My whelen slugged at .358” I’m going to try my .3595” lees in both along with a 200 grain hollow point special run mold

Sorry I missed your comment. Sounds like you know what you’re doing. Keep me posted on your results and progress. I’ll be moving into jacketed loads sooner or later. I want to try some 180 grain Speer Hot Cores. I’ve been told those are really good in 35 Remington. Thanks for watching!
@miketreen74036 жыл бұрын
I think those should put some serious smack down on what ever you hit. Now it’s up to the rifle. I’ve had several Marlins with micro groove barrels that liked cast, and several that didn’t. With that BHN and size should be a shooter
@jh58696 жыл бұрын
Mike Treen I’ve heard the same things. Got my fingers crossed! I think they should shoot well. My old rifle doesn’t have very many rounds through it, around 100. We’re gonna fix that! Factory rounds for this caliber are fairly expensive, thus the need to develop a good load.
@tripplebeards34274 жыл бұрын
How far are you bumping your case neck shoulders back when sizing your brass?
@jh58694 жыл бұрын
Tripplebeards I full length sized these every time. All the way back to SAMMI specs. All the experts said you need to do that for reliability with hunting loads in leverguns. I’ve since learned better!! We’ll get into that with some jacketed bullets. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
@tripplebeards34274 жыл бұрын
@@jh5869 I loaded up some the other day and didn’t adjust my fl sizer die down far enough so i had a bulge at the base of my necks and I had a few cases that had some resistance when closing my lever. My first three shot group onto my 336 chambered in 35 Rem with cast and all went into the same hole at 100 yards measuring .256”With 40 grains of varget, I tried a max load of h4895 powder and shot a .7” 100 yard group a few minutes later. I have since measured my fired cases with my hornady comparator and bumped my shoulders back .002” from the average fired lengths. I would think it should be just enough space to close my lever properly now without resistance. My barrel slugs at .357” and I sized my cast at .3595”. I also powder coated and gas checked them. I’ll have to try it out this week.
@jh58694 жыл бұрын
Tripplebeards wow! That’s better than I’ve gotten. What insert are you using for the Hornady Case Comparator? Seems the ones that came in my kit didn’t fit. I better find me some Varget!
@tripplebeards34274 жыл бұрын
@@jh5869 I went in hornady’s website and it said to use the .400 bushing. I’ve been using a lee collet style factory crimp die as well to crimp my casings. It puts a nice even/ consistent pressure on the necks. I tried roll and taper crimps In other caliber rifles vs this style and my groups open up. I’ve only taken it to the range twice to try. Maybe I got lucky or just have a good gun. It’s the quickest and easiest gun I’ve ever got to shoot cast in. Most I have to mess around and tinker with. The trigger lightening from 5 pounds to 2 1/4 pounds helped as well. It went from a 1” group to all in the same hole using my varget load.
@jh58694 жыл бұрын
Tripplebeards excellent! I’ll try my .400 bushing when I get home from work. Thanks for the update. Now to try and find some Varget in this environment. Things are crazy out there, Man. Stay safe! What part of the world do live in?? Just curious. Thanks again.
