The problem with farm-sim games in a massiv list like this is most of them looks generic af. Not bad, just plain and really generic. It'be hard for me to name the game by the only description and images. And that's why I can't but applaud those games who stands up: Teatopia, Critter Cove, Sally, Oddfauna, Everafter Falls, The garden path, ChefRPG, Kibu and Witchbrook. Even if they're not my cup of tea (don't like some artstyles) they looks like I could remember them. (Of course this is only based on what we can see at the moment, being them upcoming games)

Yeah... a lot of these games fail the very simple test of answering the question "what is the thing that sets it apart?". But I guess people really enjoy this genre.

For me that's not the real problem, the problem is the lack of quality and originality in these games, most of them look very boring and generic.

Kibu - really has an enchanting visual style and the theme of a combination of homestead and secluded dwelling for meditation and mindfulness really comes out in the trailer! Great going! Witchbrook - Holy hell! That visual style is arresting. I can see why there's a buzz in the beehive about this one if it's still in development... Personally speaking, I like the approach taken by "Hundred Days - winemaking simulator" which you showcased in a previous year: Wine-making, vineyard growing business with more focus on simulating such a business process: Almost educational and thus delightful when you pull it off, for these sorts of "R-P-G Far-m ing Sim-u-Lator" games!

Solarpunk is part of the punk eras that cyberpunk, steampunk, dieselpunk, clockpunk, atompunk (and many others) are part of. Solarpunk is a sci-fi subgenre that envisions a sustainable future interconnected with nature and technology, ecological utopias where nature and technology grow in harmony.

@@ClemmyGames Punk means to go against the norm, the status quo, counterculture or simply street-level anarchy. In Solarpunk means post-capitalism, where society lives in harmony with itself, technology and nature. Solar means exactly that, solar energy. Solarpunk is the direct opposite of Cyberpunk, where technology and capitalism are dominant. One is an optimistic and utopic view of the future, the other is the gritty and violent take on it.

While i am glad to see the farming sim genre get so much love after Stardew Valley's huge continuing success. I worry that the over saturation of the genre will lead to it's decline as more & more games are made but with declining unique quality & become more generic to the point of becoming asset dump cash grabs. I fear this same fate for the Metroidvania genre as well. Just look at the FPS genre or the zombie survival genre & what they have become.

Solarpunk is just a meaningless word (buzzword, but some.people are offended by this specific word, it seems) that means ecologist fiction, there's zero depth to it, capitalizing in the success of steampunk and other whateverpunks (not cyberpunk; cyberpunk was a genuine genre, not a mere shallow trend).

Solarpunk a buzzword? That word gets thrown around so frequently it is starting to become a buzzword in itself. Solarpunk is a genre that fits farming rpg's perfectly, imo. So, them using that word as the name of the game is completely valid. It's literally the same thing Cyberpunk 2077 did, even the "2077" is almost a synonym of the cyberpunk genre, so the name of the game can't get more basic than that. Steampunk is also a great genre that can have as much depth as the cyberpunk genre, i would even argue that the cyberpunk genre has been overexploited in the last few years because of how trendy it is. I wouldn't critize that game so harshly because we still don't know much about it.

@@lochlannach7 Cyberpunk 2077 is based in a 35 year old tabletop RPG called Cyberpunk 2020. It is not the same thing at all. I am not defending the trash game CDPR made, or even the one Pondsmith made (it was bad back in the 90s when I first played it and it's still bad). But why the hell are we talking about this that stupid game? It has nothing to do with my original comment.
