Hey folks, sorry about possible poor editing, still learning this app but Ill get it down. In this video, I paired a 10X8m-LH APC prop with a VEVOR 86lb trolling motor with surprising results. If you plan on ordering any prop for your trolling motor, make sure to get it in the marine section of APC's website. I hope you all enjoy the video and have a great day!!!

So after watching the video I noticed an editing blunder where I couldn't match the text with the black screen...lmao, so the stock prop ran 4.2mph at 33 amps, while the 10X8m-lh ran a top speed (off camera) of 5.2 at 41 amps, 4.9 - 5.0mph average. I consider that a win! If this were a solid boat, I bet I can get 5.5 to 6.0mph.... Thanks again everyone for the support!!!

Hey great data again! As promised a couple of weeks back, I've also tested out the Hangkai 1000w brushless outboard, which retails for ~$200 occasionally (under different brand names). Here're the mph/watt data points I got: 2.8@130w 3.6@270w 4.3@530w 5.0@1040w 5.3@1440w (Yes, using 48v ebike battery that's actually 54.6v fully charged essentially overclocks the motor) It's a solid performer, however quite noisy compared to Vevor. And it uses a fast-spinning (3000rpm) 7x5 prop, which may not be the best choice when it comes to efficiency. As a comparison, my Vevor with APC 10x8 props ran at about 3.8mph @ 500w, and peaked at ~4.4mph @1000w. I blame the brushed motor for the slower speed at similar wattage.

Wow that's awesome!!! That hankai outboard is pretty neat then, noise wouldn't bug me much, the motor itself does spin at 3000rpm, but is it the brand that has the motor under the cowling?? If so then the prop spins at about 1450-1500 rpm since the bottom unit is gear reduced I believe, I'd love for you to get a video of what u did, oh and maybe switch out props on that 48v unit

Also, if you swap your prop nut for a a Dubro 5/16" aluminum cone, then you can swap props faster and more easily without needing a wrench. They also look much cooler.

STOP apologizing for your editing! The INFORMATION you provide is excellent. There are literally millions of slickly produced videos that provide ZERO useful info. Well done. Although the 10x5M's pointy thin blades are probably more efficient, for a boat, stronger is better. If APC made 10x5M & 10x6M props with the rounded tips and thicker blade design of the 10x8M that would be killer for trolling motors. Any pitch over 6" is really too much for most trolling motors (MK rpms=1540). They could call it the Codyak Prop.👍

aha! you did it. Might be too much for a yak, but sounds perfect for a canoe! Seems like the math would hold up for any 86lb troller. I would be curious to see the running time difference between the 55lb @ 12v w/10x5 vs the 86 @ 24v w/10x8 *with the caveat that you don't go over 3mph with the same load.*. I suspect the 86lb setup will run longer with the same batteries since the amp draw will be lower for the given speed, so less lost to heat and battery dynamics.

Yeah I was using a 14 foot boat for my tests. The Newport screen isn't very informative. But considering a LiFePo4 battery that supports an app means theoretically a person could buy a pretty fancy battery, and an inexpensive trolling motor with the right APC prop and get pretty close to the same speed on a budget!

I have yet to see a durability test. Part of why your factory prop is what it is makes it tough enough to contact a rock and not be destroyed. Yeah cheap enough to carry a spare. But is it really even worth the trouble a couple of tenths of a mph? The rivers i go to prop contact is unavoidable and imminent. Will it survive an encounter with a rock like a factory prop does time after time?
@codyakfishing8856
@codyakfishing8856 10 ай бұрын
I don't think they would survive many run-ins with rocks/sand. In your situation, it would t be worth it to switch, I don't recommend using this prop to everyone.
@kmasonschecter
@kmasonschecter 10 ай бұрын
The APC blades aren't just faster: The 10x5M blade much more efficient than stock, so you'll get a much longer runtime at equivalent speeds. However, I wish they made a 10x5M with the blade style of the 10x8M. The 10x5M has thin pointy blades like the APC's RC plane props, but the 10x8M has thicker blades, rounded tips, is actually pretty stout, and has a sharp trailing edge that might do a decent job of chopping weeds (in reverse). That being said, even the 10x8M probably wouldn't do well with rock strikes.

I noticed you are talking amps and not watts. I have found that as the batteries discharge and the voltage decreases, the power is less even when using the same amps due to ohm's law, amps times volts equal watts. Maybe that's close enough, but for more accuracy, maybe get a wattmeter and go by watts which is a measurement of power.
@eddowney9548
@eddowney9548 10 ай бұрын
I just read below where you said it runs faster with the other prop, but at more amps. I'd be interested to see how fast the 2nd prop goes when using the same amount of power (watts). Also, running at the higher amps is fine for short duration (it's gonna get very hot very fast at that rate), but I'd like to see where the best efficiency is when using a specific power level like 500 watts continuous for example.
@codyakfishing8856
@codyakfishing8856 10 ай бұрын
I was thinking about buying one here soon, I'd go with watts but a lot of average anglers who use batteries are used to the amp hour statistic. Such as when u buy a battery on Amazon it usually lists the capacity in an amp hour format instead of watt hours, but I can include both on later videos

With this motor it's a bit difficult to do, it came as advertised as variable speed, but u can hear steps in the motors work load, it's not as seamless as my enduramax, but I plan to take it back out and do more testing here soon and will include some slow speed power readings

yeah, I get that. You need to communicate in a way that the average person thinks and talks. I am an oddball. I have been interested in this stuff (electricity and renewable energy) for 45 years and am fairly versed on it (not formally trained in it tho, I am a machinist). I am doing almost the same sort of thing as you here with these small crafts, just for a different reason. I understand you are talking to fishermen. As I said b4, I am interested in long duration cruising on full electric as cheap as possible and as portable as possible. I think one of the great things about these small inflatables is that someone who lives in an apartment and doesn't even own a truck can still do this. I hope that care package they sent you has alot of diff props to test! You'll have plenty of material for vids next spring and summer. You should maybe use the winter to devise a game plan on how you want to do the tests and present the info. Good luck to you, but most of all, have fun! Life is short. @@codyakfishing8856

The benefit of the nt300 is it's brushless DC motor, compared to this brushed motor unit, I'm not trying to sell APC props, I was excited in my video testing these props because I was shocked at the efficiency of them. I make no money on sales of any prop and bought them all myself. I'd love to have the nt300 to compare it to, I don't have the money for it, which is why I made this video, to give people a cheaper alternative as a lot of us are on a budget. According to videos on yt, the nt300 is getting 5 to 6 mph drawing 1200 watts, this 86lb is getting a solid 5mph drawing 1000watts on a very inefficient boat, I can bet if I had a small vhull or maybe a Jon boat, I can possibly get 5.5 and maybe even 6mph
@codyakfishing8856
@codyakfishing8856 10 ай бұрын
I forgot to mention, I compared the epropultion spirit 1.0 number for number, epropultion states it's motor has 71lbs of thrust, the vevor claims 86, both motors rotate at 1500rpm, both use close to the same watts, boat,wind,prop depending). The epropultion and nt300 are lighter weight due to their brushless design. They are both awesome electric motors..... It's just we all don't have over 2k to drop on one of them

@@XSAILOR65 I may try one in the future, but less pitch would mean less top speed. So my theory is this is the biggest prop this motor can handle due to its amp draw (42) this motor is rated for 45. My minn kota enduramax has a much more efficient pwm module and I'm able( with the 10X8m-LH prop) to slow it way down to under 1mph, but it's too much prop at top speed... if the vevor had a pwm module like my minn kota has.... it would be perfect....

@@codyakfishing8856 Agree, you will loose top end. But pending on the hull shape, maybe not so much? How slow You need to go for trolling? If they would make it as a brushless motor at close to same price, that would be nice!

Your tests just prove that trolling motors are not made for speed. The rpm they produce is just too low to move the boat fast if you put higher pitched prop it will just overheat and burn the motor.
@codyakfishing8856
@codyakfishing8856 9 ай бұрын
Now I would agree if I didn't do the research myself, the 10X8 isn't the perfect pitch to diameter ratio for this specific motor. Now after reading up on the manual of the epropultion spirit 1.0 plus, it stated it's motor max rpm is 1200, and has 71lbs of static thrust, also, as long as you keep the amp draw below manufactured specification, on this particular motor is 45amps, you shouldnt have issues with motor or wiring. In the near future I will test more and different props with this setup, I'm not looking for fast speed, I'm looking to match epropultions speed and current draw, which as of now I feel I accomplished on a budget. If you look up Wayne the boat guy, he got about 5.2 mph on his epropultion spirit 1.0 plus, and I managed 5.0 on this much cheaper setup
