Illithids being unambiguously soulless was a bit of a bummer but definitely confimred as a hard fact. Jergal himself says the soul vanishes during ceremorphosis. It doesn't even properly kill the victim, just unmakes their very essence.

38:00 I was romancing Shadowheart, and this whole time I was like "I'm fine with her being evil, I'm a female lolth drow evil is fine" but when it came down to it, it was an impossible choice for me to make to either cheer her on or attempt to stop her when we were at the Nightsong, so I just let the game decide. It was genuinely my favorite moment of my first playthrough because I didn't know what she'd do or what the ramifications might be, especially with our romance line because if she became a Dark Justiciar she might not have the ability to be romanced, I didn't know, but I couldn't make the choice for her, I just had to let the desicion lie, and I'm so glad I did.

Btw if you keep confronting the Emperor and saying "I don't believe you" etc - he'll admit that he didn't had this duke woman as a lover, he was just manipulating her, just as he manipulating you, and you are his puppet and will do what he wants etc... Also if you go to Emperor's former hideout, the basement - you will find a dog collar. And after you pick the collar - open your inventory, the collar is on you now.

There's also those books/notes you can find in game that basically say "If you're allied with a mindflayer be wary and ready for it to turn on you the second you aren't useful to it anymore. They are not your friend." and other stuff that hints toward the alliance between the player character and the Emperor being a manipulation on the Emperors part.

This. The Emperor may envision himself som sort of benevolent dictator but there are some important details that immediately made me suspicious of him. 1. Pushing taking illithid powers and becoming half illithid even after saying no. 2. He kills Ansur, not out of self defense because he turns into an Illithid. He kills Ansur because he starts to like what being illithid gives him in terms of power and Ansur wants to keep looking for a cure. 3. He lied about Ansur being down there. 4. He never once considers to compromise on his plans. 5. He refuses to even enter negotiations with Orpheus and fulfill the role of the illithid that the party needs. 6. His secret organisation does some shady shit and Machiavellian scheming, the ends do not in fact justify the means. 7. The Elder brain regains some autonomy after we get the first stone. Obviously all three being away from the dead three's chosen is going to give her more autonomy, add to that we bring the stones right to her. Somewhere near the start of act 3 I figured that the Emperor is either the dumbest mindflayer to ever exist or is on the Elder Brain's side getting us to be his bludgeoning instrument against the dead 3's chosen and free her. I fully expected him to release the protection he was giving us right after I kill Orin last and we would get mind controlled right away. That didn't happen so the Emperor is just an idiot. Fuck the Emperor

@@awkwardlysilver That is a general warning about mind flayers, it does not prove anything, it is just some good general advice. There is much more damning evidence (a book), that states, that Steelmane's condition started to deteriorate once they started meeting a stranger, which is implied to be the emperor. And everytime they met the emperor their condition improved slightly, as if they were dependent on the emperor somehow, to be able to stay lucid.

But then there is omeluum, who seems like he is quite nice and respectful, making active efforts into integrating himself normally into society and trying to figure out ways to like without having to eat brains etc Maybe it's just the arcane nature he was born with effecting him but it's worth noting since nothing about him seems suspicious at all, and actively helps the player, and random people in act 3 if you release him

I went through the arc for saving the land, and got to Daniel, when the fight was over Shadowheart still had Spirit Guardians, when the bubble dropped she got up real close to my character when I landed the final hit, and instead of getting the dialogue immediately after the bubble went out, the spirit guardians Killed Thaniel. Had to go back 40 minutes of gametime.

I did a full playthrough as Gale, and i think that this playthrough is THE BEST possible ending. The Emperor is a cool character but i dont like siding with him and just dooming the Githyankee to servitude. So Gale became a mindflayer, and at the end of the game i gave the crown to Mystra and she said she can turn you back into a person and give you your soul back, but only if you join her in Elysium. I said i will do that later and she said thats fine, so no real consequenses for anyone in the ending and everybody lives.

431 hours here. first PT was 187 hours. Currently have a xenophobic Githyanki PT in Act III and a power hungry Drow Sorcerer PT in Act II. But 4 clears in 350 hours and still missed out on stuff, crazy to think how much there is in the game.

And, if you contine to tell him you don't trust him, he will show you the truth about his previous "relationship" in a last gasp effort to show you he isn't manipulating you (at least not that blatantly)

I'm super late to this video but I'm incredibly confused by what is said at 1:46:25, what is the Countermeasures that is being referred to? Specifically "The Bard one is called Snapping of Strings". I thought I knew the game pretty well but this is the first time I'm hearing of this despite having done the final fight several times now. Is it only on a certain difficulty? Is if you pass or fail the turn timer or if you kill or don't kill someone? **Edit - Nevermind found what it is. It's the name of 4 of the enemies you fight during the final fight alongside a red, winged creature. I don't know what, if anything, would cause them to be different but I don't remember them at all and from what I can see they looked very different to how they did in my game....

The key point to know about The Emperor and turning into an illithid, and this is emphasized by Withers and in the post credits scene, is that you lose your soul entirely in the process. Therefore, by turning illithid, you aren't exactly you, just a copy with all your previous memories in a new tentacle body (making this a sort of SOMA problem). Short from an actual Wish spell (if it can return a soul that is gone), there is no previous you to save, and that is more terrifying tbh. Not to mention that in the end you will eventually deteriorate into the original mind flayer mentality.

My first and current playthru is DUrge and I love it. Its almost perfect for an amnesiac character playthru. I just that I thought I was just a creep with murderous urges at the start then gradually as the plot unveils, you start to piece together who you really were before the events of the game.

The Emperor in my playthrough was a dick he was super possessive and told me that I am nothing without him. Dude betrayed his best friend the dragon guy. Withers told me in act 2 that mindflayers were soulless monsters so I refused all tadpoles and turned on the Emperor. I assume thats the "good" playthrough they want.

A crazy thing me and my friend discovered about this game. If the strange Ox dies in act one Dammon cant get to act 2 and it hard locks Karlachs romance. Apparently its coded to send the ox to act 2 and then send dammon to the Ox and if the Ox is dead Dammon just gets teleported into the ground in the Grove lmaoo

I went into the full release convinced that i was going to romance Karlach but i ended up romancing Shadowheart. I didnt plan on romancing her but it just blossomed naturally and im so glad i did. It made the whole Gauntlet of Shar arc very immersive and honestly i just loved how much of a slow burn it was throughout the acts. Funnily enough when she said she was ready and we started to become an item, Gale turned around and was all like "I thought we had something but i can see that there is someone else" and i felt so bad for him because i didnt feel the same way and let him down gently and the way he was so cool with it and wanted me to be happy I didnt even realise that that was the Gale romance bug but I was so immersed by it. Romancing Shadowheart again in my current run (technically 4th but this is the post patch 5 that will be completedso i can recruit Minthara legit in a good centric playthrough) And actually have my epilogue with Shadowheart, as i didnt see it on my first run due to a bug (as well as see the 6 month later reunion epilogue)

THat tower climb to the brain stem was horse-shit, it kicked my ass in every way possible. I ended up cheesing it and just having Karlach use an invisibility potion and her strong ass legs to stealth jump up the tower because once you interact with the brain stem it teleports everyone there.

my ending was a bit bugged too, a lot of npcs didnt show up. But the most important thing was that Wyll and I went to Avernus together with Karlach. real baddass ending. One thing I doesnt get is when you free Orpheus but you dont want to turn Illithid he turns, which implies he has a tadpole on his own. When you dont let him turn and press B it tells you this individual has no tadpole. So Im really curious on how or what Orpheus power truly is.

The portal fight was really easy for me. I'm on my second playthrough, playing a D'urge Barbarian/Paladin. Idea being that he starts off being violent and angry, and slowly tries to fight the Urge, and channels his hatred for good, seeking Justice and Avenging those who were wronged, and Vengeance on those who made him this way. Also, romancing Astarion as Dark Urge is the most perfect couple ever. You are both broken, seen as monsters by others, and feel powerless to change yourselves. But, together you will fight tooth and nail to make the person you love free.

At first i liked the emperor even though i felt a bit decieved, but as you say people are quick to judge a mind flayer so i was keen to not be judgemental. However as the story progressed The Emperor asks us to blindly trust him again and again, and i felt a lot of his actions were very manipulative, but i kept putting my faith in him. However every time we try to get any information we want that the Emperor doesnt feel like we need to know he doesnt trust us with the knowledge. Again and again the Emperor refuses to put his trust in us. We are presented with alternatives to the Emperors plan by Kithrak'voss. Voss shows himself to be honorable imo, and he points out that the Emperor is lying about orpheus and im inclined to believe him because Lae'zel trusts him too. We uncover many other horrible things about the Emperor such as his enslavement of Oprheus, and most importantly his enslavement of Duke Stelmane. Its clear the Emperor is willing to do anything to serve his own cause, and it becomes clear by the end when he turns on us and joins the elder brain. His main goal was never serving the world, but only serving himself. He wants to not die obviously, but he wants power for himself and trusts no one but himself.

The Dame Aylin is weird but fixable bug. Later after the loroakan fight, she does the "i dont feel so good", leave and go so some side stuff. Then go back to visit the mage Sorcerer Sundries tower and youll find Aylin still there doing fuck all. Talk to her again and thatll intitiate the "we're going to help the sunites" conversation. The pair will leave your camp as it should happen and be available at end game. I will also say that Craig's game was horrifically messed up. I turned Illithid to save Orpheus and still got an ending where all my friends loved me.

It actually sounds like whoever was behind the camera didn't have bugs, he just didn't understand not finishing quests.... The emperor turning on you wasn't a bug, you free'd orpheus which he tells you NOT to do several thousand times. How are you guys so confused about freeing Orpheus? It is LITERALLY going against the emperor.... If you don't want him to turn against you, don't free Orpheus.... and the Githyanki suck... their awful . Turning into an Illithid and people turning on you isn't a bug.... you turned in a mind flayer which people hate and they treat you like that. You missed a bunch of things and made some bad decisions.

I find The Emperor to be a VERY manipulative bastard. Like he'll have a deep conversation with you and try to talk to you like a friend, before going back to going "hey, you should really become more Illithid, it's really awesome, we have cookies." And I'm like, "dude, can you stop pier pressuring me to do this thing that I've been trying to avoid the whole game. There's a difference between using tadpoles to gain cool powers and becoming a mind flayer." Also, after you find his hideout he's like "I have no secrets left, you trust me now right?" When he's still keeping 2 VERY big secrets from us at that point. EDIT and SPOILERS: Yeah, just got a scene that proves this. If you're consistently hostile towards The Emperor, then he shows you the truth. He wasn't friends with Duke Stelmane, he made her his thrall and controlled her the entire time he was in Balders Gate before Gortash sent him back to the brain. He then basically threatens you and tells you that you're his puppet, a means to free himself from the brain, and to be grateful he hasn't done the same thing he did to Stelmane to you, but he could if he wanted to.
