I have the Ruger bolt carbine in 450 bushmaster and I love the light weight of it. My grandson, 13, had the choice of it, the 6.5 Creedmoor and a 308. I was really surprised he chose the 450. I even thought it may be too much recoil, but he said it fit him and felt right. So I told him that it was his to use. Last Saturday afternoon, he took his first deer, a big doe, and dropped her in her tracks. He said he didn't notice any kick, and couldn't have been happier. I use the Hornaday 245 gr interlocks in it. They are more solid and are not like some of the others loaded with glorified pistol bullets. I am really impressed with the accuracy and performance of that load. I don't see myself or my son using it anytime soon, lol. Daniel has his claim on it,

The 350 Legend is more popular than all other cartridges combined n the straight wall states. It gets the job done with minimal recoil, low cost and easy to find ammo, and plenty of cheap rifles chambered for it.

Great job on comparing the two . Personally, I like them both, but I reload. When you reload, you get way better ballistics & velocity data . Their are so many really good powders , brass , bullets, and primers on the market today. The sky is the limit . And if you are not reloading your own ammo, you will not understand. I also know most people either don't know how or their afraid to or just thank it's expensive. To tell you the truth It's not you can get everything you need to start for $200-$350 . Don't be afraid to buy used equipment. Their's lots of good stuff out their today . God bless you and your family God-bless America 🇺🇸 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱🇨🇱.

Thanks for this. I'm in straight wall land so this year I picked up a Ruger 450, with 22 in. barrel. Very happy with it. Got a nice doe. No tracking. There are several choices of optics built for 450. I like how this gun is in the middle of the price range. With a little practice even I can keep up with most other big caliber. One coworker believes they're good out to 300y. for deer. I'm comfortable at 200 for now.

Bought a 450 BM in the Ruger American Go Wild last year. Have taken 5 hogs and a nice 7pt cull buck. None have needed tracking. The bear creek 240 grain all copper load going 2590 fps is the ticket. Did a zero test this year after being stored all season. Two shots. Both holes still touching at 100 yds. I don’t have a 350 legend to compare it with. But, 6 full size animals taken and not 1 needed tracked is about all the real world proof I need. Thing hits like a sledge hammer. Thanks for the great videos WTW! God bless brother.

I got a buck with my 450 bushmaster this pew deer season. I heard the round connect with the buck at about 80 yards away the buck immediately went down. *SIDE NOTE* I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM HORNADY BLACK FTX BULLETS FOR WHITETAIL DEER. 250GR FTX COMPLETELY TURNED TO SHRAPNEL NO PASS THROUGH.
@scottpaulsen26492 сағат бұрын
Well that is what is called energy transfer if you don't get a pass through it has dumped its energy and 99%of the time they drop where they stand
@mjc49422 сағат бұрын
I believe that. I've seen what Barnes copper bullets can do. They work great. They open up but don't fragment often. Bit more money but worth it.
@czguy3045Сағат бұрын
I've never shot them out of a centerfire, but in a muzzleloader, the FTX is definitely designed to transfer all that energy within about 15 to 20 inches. Rarely would see a full pass through. Should definitely result in a dead deer and probably less likely to run very far but yeah... no pass through and likely less of a blood trail.

I've usedboth the 450 and 350 since Ohio legalized straight wall cartridges. I was really impressed by the 450, dropping several deer instantly even with marginal shot placement. I didn't love the 350 at first because my track jobs, even with good shot placement, were longer than when I shoot deer with a bow. I just got terrible expansion with 150 grain and 180 grain soft points (the Winchersters you tested). This year I switched to 170 grain Barnes VOR-TX loads and both deer dropped within 20 yards of being hit. The ammo isn't quite as consistent as other choices, but they expanded beautifully at 100 yards. 450 recoil was a bit much for me without a muzzle break. the 350 was very comfortable.

Something that I don’t see very many people talking about is the fact that both the 450 and the 350 when loaded in a bolt action can be much stronger and pushed a lot harder most of the bolt guns available for the 450 bushmaster can handle well up to 60,000 psi Where the load for the hornady FTX 250 grain that a lot of people use is only pushing around 38,000 psi. Personally, I use Bear Creek ballistics 240 grain in my 450 bushmaster and I think that’s really hard to beat nothing else that’s available in my state to use comes close to what that has for down range energy as far as recoil goes I don’t really think 450 even has much recoil in the proper brake on it, but I grew up using slug gunsso I got used to recoil

They’re is a new straight wall in the process of going commercial or attempting to go commercial I should say. It’s called the 41 Great Lakes, has better energy, and shoots flatter than the 450 while having substantially less recoil. Two guys from Michigan developed this round and are working hard to get it up and running. They have an FB page and a few videos of taking deer with this round. I think if it gets off the ground it will replace the 450 and 350. Also I would just like to add it ballistically beats the 400 legend.

Good vid as always! Here's my take: I have two 350 Legends, an AR and a Ruger American Ranch Gen II. I do not own a Bushmaster. I do tend to lean towards lighter/faster loads in general. I don't need a straight-walled cartridge where I hunt but I would if I hunted public land. I'd be using that Fusion or the Barnes TTX if I were to actually go out with the Legend though that Hornady Whitetail looks like a great offering as usual, but specifically in the 350 Legend. The 450 just looks like too much recoil for not a lot of added benefit. The 350 is a pussycat. Feels about like a 243 whereas the 450 is closer to a 30/06 but slower or maybe about like a slower 12 gauge slug. For an experienced shooter, that's fine but for a newer shooter... I just think he or she is going to get up to speed much more easily with the Legend and within 150 yards, I just don't think the 450 is worth it.

The 450 has a lot more recoil which i don't mind much but it is also extremely loud and i hunt near dwellings. I can't shoot further than 150 yards on my places to hunt. We have to use straight walled cartridges in my county and compared to my slug gun the 350 is awesome.

I can tell you from personal experience, the 350 legend is extremely lethal on whitetails! I know quite a few people that use both the 350 legend and the 450 bushmaster I don’t think the killing power or trajectory is really noticeable between the two? Why I prefer the 350 legend is the cost of ammo, 450 bushmaster is almost twice the amount for a box of shells! Reloading straight wall cartridges is not my favorite thing, I’ve done it before, but generally, I purchase all my pistol ammunition and straight wall cartridge revolver/rifle ammunition.

I just have better choices in the safe . and i have and love the performance i get from both in the woods but if i had a nice deer show himself at 300 yards i sure wouldn't feel under powered with ither one remember the old 45 lc has many followers in the deer woods and at 300 yards these 2 guys have as much power as 357 mag has at the muzzle and surly no one here believe a deer would live thru a 45 lc at point blank range. its all placement and both these are capable of better then 3 in groups at 300 yards so the most deadly gun is the one you have mastered at the bench for that reason i would recommend the 350 most anyone could take a days' worth of 350 recoil and i have found the ammo is much much cheaper for practicing also. so i think folks in general would shoot more with the 350.

But I don’t take shoulder shots. I shoot em with a gun just like a bow normally broadside and behind shoulder.
