Thanks for making videos like this! Most English language cycling content are of full size road bikes or mtb. Rarely do we get to see folding bike content, which usually focuses on a complete build rather than gradual upgrades like this video shows!

My 27.5 inch, 32-spoke, all-aluminum mtb wheelset weighs 1697 grams including the QR skewers. Those Koozer rims are quite heavy for a folding bike.

Thansk for the video , I wanted to upgrade my Jave Zelo wheelset ,between litepro Aero, Pasak 406 and RT A100, for your opinion which one more suitable to Java Zelo?
@erictayet
@erictayet Жыл бұрын
Dunno about the rest. I got the Litepro Aero S42 406. Tyres are Schwalbe Marathon coz I'm crazy and take my foldie to light off-road. (Don't even try! The aluminium frame and steel fork is unforgiving to your butt.) You can buy Schwalbe One if you want super light. But very easy to puncture. I've upgraded seatpost and handlebar to carbon so there is less vibration and my hands are not so painful on bumpy roads. Trying to find compatible carbon fork to reduce front wheel vibration even more.

Your new wheelset fits your 10 speed freewheel? I thought new wheelsets usually has cassette hub.

@@WiserBiker Thanks. I remembered you said your bike was using freewheel in Tier 1 upgrade. So, you changed that when you do the first upgrade?
@WiserBiker

@@ChuKokSiuMing If you do tier 1 to 3 from the get go, you only need to change your existing freewheel to cassette once.

Your modification videos are informative… Can Java Zelo be upgraded to a suspension fork for smoother ride experience?
@WiserBiker
@WiserBiker Жыл бұрын
You can but we personally feel it 1.5" tires is sufficient for a smoother ride. Again the beauty of foldie is you can do whatever you want, it's your personal preference. No right or wrong :D

hi, when selecting the wheel set, does it matter if the group set is cassette or freewheel? Thanks.
@WiserBiker
@WiserBiker Жыл бұрын
Hi Johnny, if you are buying a new wheelset. Chances are you will be getting one that uses cassette. Those that uses freewheels are usually stock wheelsets for very entry bicycles. So just choose a good wheelset as your primary consideration. If your exiting cassette/freewheel is not compatible with the new wheels. You can always get a new cassette to go with it. There are many affordable cassettes in the market so it won’t be a concern. Cheers!

Wah so long... I already upgraded my seat-post & handlebar to carbon. Now looking for a compatible carbon front fork because the original heavy steel one is starting to rust and to help reduce the weight because my Schwalbe Marathon is quite heavy compared to Schwalbe One & your Innova. I bought a Litepro carbon fork but that turned out to be incompatible due to the short stem and different mating system for the Java Zelo. Any idea which carbon fork is compatible with minimum modification? The final major upgrade for me is to go for 451 carbon wheels but that's $1k+ and at that price, there are many options including moving to a road-bike. I definitely agree that 451 is the way to go. The extra 2" diameter helps to push pass 25kph easily.

You could consider the "Tier 4" frame upgrade. I've come across a few Java Zelo users that transferred over to another frame after most parts get upgraded. I've seen a few Crius and Fnhon with carbon fork. You could consider getting cheaper carbon wheels or lightweight Alu ones like the one here. (However for lightweight wheels you trade max speed for min speed, at least in my experience). As for tyres if you like the Marathon tyre's ride feel you can consider Marathon Racer. Road bike will definitely be faster, but lack the benefits of foldies
@erictayet
@erictayet Жыл бұрын
@@WisteriaBerlitz the Java Zelo aluminium frame is ok. As in it's relatively stiff and I just want the weight to drop some more. For your Tier 4 upgrade, I've considered it and the Sava Z3 Carbon Folding Bike is currently my top of the list. After folding, the package is secure and easy to move around unlike Java Zelo.

@@erictayet do you still have the stock Java wheels or are they Litepro?
@erictayet
@erictayet Жыл бұрын
@@WisteriaBerlitz I got the Litepro. Lighter and smoother than stock. I think the ratchet has more teeth so respond is faster by a bit. I regretted not getting the 451 version. It will squeeze out just that little bit more speed.

@@erictayet You're pretty much reached the plateau of what the bike can provide Next will probably be the chainring to get even faster, provided if your leg can power it I assume you've already upgraded the stock crank, if not definitely upgrade.

Personally I'd go for Schwalbe/Continental tyre and butyl inner tubes if this was my bike You could do a Tier 4 upgrade in the future, by changing the frame 😂 Could be a frame review + T4 upgrade video

Yes actually we were eyeing for Conti tire but they have very limited tires for 451. Good idea for Tier 4, frame upgrade 😂 We will look into one after we finish our gravel bike building project. We will probably do a review of our upgrade from tier 1 to 3 and what are the things that we could have done better. Can tell you are a foldie guru, now may we seek your expertise on what are the foldie accessories that we should have? Wheels are our biggest winner, tires and tubes are something that we are very interested to test. Hopefully we have good things to talk about it in the future hahaha!

@@WiserBiker Guru is too much a praise, I'm just a casual rider that likes looking around for the next upgrade. 😂 Accessories wise pretty subjective, you've already covered some, phone holders, cyclocomputer, lights etc. For my friend's Java Zelo we've added a dual kickstand, and instead of upgrading groupset I just changed the awful SIS to Altus. Personally I've gotten myself and a friend a JBL GO 3 recently, great portable BT speaker for bicycles (basically a mini Flip 3, GO 1 & 2 was mediocre) and an excellent 3rd party silicone case that got me into buying the GO 3 instead of other speakers. Maybe you could look into the Enfitnix rear lights, affordable and bright. The selling point for me is the brake indicator (accelerometer detects change then light turns static red). Perhaps Rockbros front lights too, can compare it against Cateye.
@WiserBiker
@WiserBiker Жыл бұрын
@Wisteria Yeah very subjective, different people have different needs. Very wise choice on replacing SIS to Altus! 👍 We need to be your friend (JBL Go 3 when? 😂) JBL Go 3 will definitely be our consideration should we want to introduce portable BT speaker. Tons of light options but we probably will take a longer time to do. Thanks again for taking your time and all the suggestions!
