good job for your 1st time. Don't mind the haters. I doubt they did as well. Chances are they did not do well at all or never even attempt. (Haters = how they actually feel about themselves). Thumbs UP!

I gave it a thumbs down simply because I wanted to hear it run and viewers just love it when people film an engine running from the engine compartment. You know, Because the vacuum hiss sounds awesome on camera....

That's a healthy sounding engine. Nice job for your first cam swap. Might I suggest that next time, rather than setting your idle speed to 2000 using the adjusting screw (Manually) you simply use the flat blade to support your idle speed. Open throttle by hand to desired RPM and place screw driver between the throttle stop/set screw and shaft. Why?, If the break in process goes south, you are now able to lower the RPM instantly rather than fumbling around tying to back off the rpm manually. It could make the difference between a catastrophic engine failure and a "That was a close one" type of situation. Trust Me! Peace! and excellent job!

It's been proven the 4 7 swap works,but with gains of only about 3-5 horses average,and shouldn't work with dual plane intakes.Works best with big cubes and tunnel rams.Also evens out pressure on the crank.

I saw your video..very nice! I like the way your RPMs jump to 7k. My idle is set at around 900 rpm based on sound. I do not have a tachometer yet. I hope my truck sounds as good as yours after I put me headers on. I pick up my dual exhaust tomorrow and then I will post another video of the single stock exhaust to the header/dual exhaust sounds. :) Aaron

nice video! I'm looking at the same cam. Any issues over time running the stock springs and lifters on the heads? When I reached out they suggest a kit, but wasn't sure if it's needed. Thanks
@phlebmaster14 жыл бұрын
kjs0291 Thank you for your question. I did not have any issues overall but I was also being reasonable with my driving. If I was planning on doing any sort of heavy load or racing I would definitely upgrade. But no issues noticed over time with the stock valvetrain. This cam was about the biggest you could go with the stock valve set up but it was just at that threshold so an upgrade would not be a bad idea.

Just wondering how the brake booster liked the 112 LSA. Nice sounding cam if it produces enough vacuum for stopping.
@stomis1808 жыл бұрын
That should have plenty of vacuum for power brakes. I had the Crane Energizer/Cam Dynamics 278H 222 278 467 110 in a 10:1 350 with a Performer RPM. Brakes worked good. The 278H cam replaced an ISKY 280 Mega cam 232 280 485 108. The 280 Mega was at the very edge of not enough vacuum to work and the pedal always felt very weak. The 278H was the only change and it was a big improvement.
@jonathanhudson46236 жыл бұрын
The power brakes didn't mind the comp cams 305H cam I put in the full forged bottom end stroker 383 with opened up dart iron eagle 200cc heads (10.5:1), performer rpm air-gap and a 2" spacer, nitrous plate and a Holley 750DP. It all went in a 1989 ws6 formula firebird with 4 wheel disc. I also converted the car to a t56 from an lt1 camaro. I built and drove the car like that from the age of 16 back in 2000 until I was 19 after having alot of issue finding a clutch that would hold. I had McLeod hydraulics and a centerforce dual friction clutch. It would barely hold the motyor and would hold nitrous at all. I'll eventually put it back together with a spec stage 3 when I'm done with all my other projects. IE. My 57k mile 10sec 2002 ws6 TA (daily driver), my 2000 turbo 5.3 zr2 s10, and my 87 k5 blazer.

ZINC is the key element for flat tappet cams and that's what the oils today are lacking . I'm finishing up an AMC 360 with a very mild cam 280 / 470 /112 LSA which is all I should need for torque I hope , any thoughts ??
@phlebmaster110 жыл бұрын
Comp Cam has a great calculator for determining your specific needs based on set up. And I agree.... Zinc is the key and harder to find in the modern oils. I usually look for Rotella or oil designated for older / high mileage engines. You have to look carefully for the right oil.
@Foxstang4life10 жыл бұрын
Aaron Harrison Cool thanks I'll give it a look , I think they sell a zinc additive from Lucas or joe gibbs , I know a lot a riders That use Rotella for we clutches and that's a diesel blend I believe
@Chris60689 жыл бұрын
I'm actually running a Mobil DELVAC1 0w-40 diesel oil in my SBC 350, because of the extra zinc in it. The 0w rating seems to help with the -40 starts everyday here as well.

Wonder if the 4/7 swap would be easier on a 2 bolt main block?!
@phlebmaster13 жыл бұрын
It is my understanding that the 47 swap is supposed to smooth out the vibrations in the engine. Giving that information I believe it does do better for a two bolt main. My experience with that engine which was a two bolt main was a much smoother idle with the bigger camshaft and smaller CC heads.
@CSXT82503 жыл бұрын
@@phlebmaster1 Thanks, that's what I'm thinking as well. I'm going that same route for my upcoming build. However, I'm planning on switching to a 108° LSA, using Rhoads to calm the cam down to 214-ish degrees until above 3k where it pulls and hauls ass for my particular build. My mind is made up, I'm doing the 4/7 swap. Back in '94 I ran the 270 magnum in a stone stock low mileage 400 SBC out of a '78 G30 RV camper. Was only looking for a good 350, but the 400 fell in my lap. Despite the low compression (sounded Pontiac like at idle) it worked wonderful. The car was an '84 Camaro coupe originally V6 stripper so it was light. Turbo 350 and 3.23 gears. That cam alone put it at 12.77 @ 106. One time pass, I got excited.. slept and red lighted. Torque was insane everywhere, and how the car moved the way it did. Couldn't imagine a 270 ground on a 112 LSA. Maybe it was just displacement for me but torque with the shelf 270 mag was GREAT.

Nubbins Thats what i thought to. I used their 270/470 single pattern in a 360 dodge back in the 90s. Fully warmed up it did idle near stock with just a hint of lope. This one sounds pretty tame givin the specs.
@adamc84096 жыл бұрын
that's because a 112 lsa isn't an aggressive lope, a rough idle would be like 110 108 range.
@cadillacdave86195 жыл бұрын
That is due to the 112lsa and the 4/7 swap. Both contribute to a smoother running motor
@TheRoguelement8 жыл бұрын
Nice dude .. I especially love your choice of that non-performance carburetor .. Have you ever heard of Holley ? Next time if you want a performance carburetor by a Holley ...Oh and as far as it running like an Awesome monster . well it might have if you allowed the motor to take full advantage of the camshaft .. But i t can't because you didn't do anything to improve the Flow Or the compression of the motor. Had you sent them out for a Bowl blend or match porting even a mild head porting and removing say 0.20 off the heads to raise the compression ratio a bit ..because some 350 depending on the year were actually dismal performers because of the nearly 8:5:1 compression ration that can't support very much in the way of performance unless of course your running a Boosted application say a pair of ebay turbos Or Pro charger .. Sorry bro maybe your second engine will turn out to be that totally awesome monster you want...I'm really curious as to how you came to purchase a 4/7 swap cam and why ? Who mentioned that cam to you how did it get stuck in your memory bank ? And what did you think the Benefits were to having such a cam .. why didn't that same friend mention header's to take full advantage of your new cam Or a performance intake manifolds and was your cam new or used .. ?????

@stomis1808 жыл бұрын
When it comes to flat tappet cams Most competent machinists will recommend that you only install a used matching set of cam & lifters back into in the block they were used in because factory machining on the blocks isn't exact and cam failure can easily be the result. If you're going to install a used cam into a different block install new lifters. That means break-in must be done.

4/7 swap wont help you unless your running 7500+ rpm.. cool but waste of money .

Probably just some shit the guy that sold him the cam said. If bet it's a 270H 224@.050 470 lift 110 lobe separation just like the other 10 million of those cams that been sold in the last 40+yrs.
