Soggy trails are not always fun. I remember hearing about that German hiker who had the tree fall on him. his hiking "tramily" saw it happen. I can't even imagine 😢 I've been super vigilant when I'm in the woods and it's windy, since I got caught out in that derecho a few years ago. Trees falling, a brach grazed my cheek as it flew by...scare the livin' 💩 out of me! 😱

Looks like you were having a great time on the trail and a Zero in Westport , well that’s just perfect. I am thinking sometime in August I will attempt the Rideau trail. I am leaning a lot from your videos thank you.

We had just finished the first leg of the RT at Brittania Beach in Ottawa when the derecho hit in 2022. Can't imagine what it would have been like if we had still been walking. Yikes. Hopefully getting through Marlborough Forest wasn't too wet, but I doubt it. The ATVers have really ripped up those trails. At one point I could've canoed down a section. Isn't the Cove Inn great? We've stopped there twice for lunches after walks and we love it. Last summer we did a two-day walk and stayed the night there as well.

That must have been scary - did you take shelter in the building there, or make it back to your vehicle in time?

@@TheHealthyHiker we just got to the car when the heavens opened. Then it took 2 hrs to get home (normally a 15 min drive) because of all the fallen trees and hydro poles
