Another request from Weir1872.
The "No Surrender" slogan derives from the 1689 Siege of Derry. The song is associated with unionism and particularly Northern Irish unionism, and is a favourite with supporters of the Glasgow Rangers.
Lyrics and chords:
C ……………………..………................……....... F ……….......….. C
Won’t you gather round me lads and listen to your dad,
……….……………...............…….…….. G7
For now my life is but a dying ember,
……....….. C …………........…....…… F ….…........………. C
But be George before I go I want you all to know,
………………...........…. F ………..…........ G7 C
That Ulster is the land of No Surrender.
From the Battle of the Boyne to the carnage of the Somme,
We gave our enemies something to remember,
So be George before I go I want you all to know,
That Ulster is the land of No Surrender.
Won’t you gather round me girls and listen if you will,
And tell your children always to remember
That your daddy taught you so and grandad ought to know,
That Ulster is the land of No Surrender.
Won’t you clasp my hand my dear and my final words you'll hear.
You've always been a friend, so kind and tender,
Place your lips against my brow and hear my final vow,
That Ulster is the land of No Surrender.

Thanks, Heino. I try to keep a balance with these Irish songs, but lately I've been getting a lot of requests for the Loyalist side.

No. Because the "British" didn't do anything. Certain groups within Britain did things. "Germans" aren't to blame for the holocaust, nazis are.

We Northern Irish are British after all Northern Ireland is part of the UK. There is a long history from the first but small number of settlers which was English peerage in the 1200's to the more notable the Ulster Plantation from the 1550's right up until the 1620's which was English and mostly Scottish setters. Since the start there was numbers of native Irish that became loyal to the crown. My mother's side is descendents of English settlers from the North of England and native Irish while my dad's side descents is low land Scots, North West Scots (Irish settlers of Scotland and because of this my last name is Irish in origin) and partly native Irish aswell. Northern Ireland is the most staunchly British part of the UK because of the anti British sentiment across the border and about 40% of our own population. I take it you are a yank Thrash? So if you are willing to do your homework on why here is some notable parts of history of why and how much we love being British. -Ulster Plantation as mentioned -King William III Glorious Revolution in Ireland 1688-91 -Battle of the Diamond and the formation of the Orange Lodge 1795 -Act of Union 1801 -Prime Minister William Gladstone's 1st & 2nd Home Rule Bill which lead to the creation of the Ulster Defence Union 1860's I think -Ulster Covenant 1912 which formed the UVF to fight against the 3rd Home Rule Bill -WW1 especially look into the 36th Ulster Division -Partition of Ireland 1921 which Northern Ireland is created and it's remaining in the UK - Irish Civil War which did spread here with the UVF successor the Ulster Special Constabulery and the Royal Ulster Constabulery fighting against the IRA -WW2 contribution and with again the IRA fighting the USC and the RUC -The Border Confict 1950's -The Troubles 1969-1998 (my personal opinion is that it never ended) -Flag Protests 2012 -Belfast 12th parade rerouted 2015 -And finally this past year and present the Anti Protocol Protests which as I consider the Protocol as the 4th Home Rule Bill, this has now brought us on the knife edge to another civil war especially when the the loyalist paramilitaries had set a hoax bomb 5 days ago which loyalists paramilitaries hasn't done in years never mind planting a real one unlike Irish republicans who do that at least once or twice a month every year.
