New place’s always get out and walk the area and scope out how much room you have before you make and decisions. This avoid any damage to truck and property. The time wasted walking the area is more valuable then a repair or tow bill.

I think that shipper should cut about 5 feet out of their fence, opposite the card key side. They act like they’ve never had a truck pull into their yard! That was crazy! Dan did a great job as always!

As a new driver in the mid 90's I was "told", I had to back into a yard in Staten Island NY. The street had cars parked on both sides and I just couldn't get in there. After about 30 minutes and many attempts, I heard one of the workers say, "Why don't you let him pull in from the back like the last guy, I'll move the cars in the way". I could have killed him at that moment. I could see the problem from the beginning, but didn't want to speak up thinking that the last driver had gotten in, so I must be able to as well. Turns out the last guy had a cab over and a 40' trailer. I had a conventional with a 48' trailer.... The lesson is speak up when you need to!

The other part is if your truck damages anything you get held responsible. I had a back up job like that at a farm. Farmer was standing in back waving his arms this way and that and had no idea. I got out looked it over and ignored him, job done. Good Job Dan.

I started out moving mobile homes (Trailers ya know) when I was 16 yrs old (1974) My Dad had been doing it since he retired from the Army in 1964 and I was in the truck with him most of the time. I learned from his mistakes and successes. I never let anyone get me into a situation that would damage a load. Good video on this subject Dan. THANKS!

I would do the same thing. I drove flatbed back when all the construction was going on in Las Vegas. I refused on a couple of occasions to spot my truck where the contractor wanted it because it just was not safe to do so. I will say they were good about it and we came up with a new plan to unload the truck safely. My dispatcher always backed me up and left it to me to do what I thought best. Don't take chances out there and if it just doesn't feel right don't do it. And don't forget GOAL-Get out and look!

Well said. When you are tasked with doing a HARD thing and an EASY thing, always do the HARD thing first. You're more alert and rested, and you clear the risks, so it's (usually) smooth sailing after accomplishing the more difficult or risky work first.

Just came across your video. Nice backing job. I've been at it since '97. I was once told back when I first started "back in never out"... They are words to live by. Patience is one of the biggest assets of any driver. Most young ones don't have it and get freaked out if they are waiting too long for some places. That's the time when I'd usually catch up on my paperwork, navigation or lay down. Sometimes all three.

You should have told that Foreman you got your license from Tractor Supply and that entitles you to do what you think is best for your truck and the way you drive, LOL.... . I really agree with you backing in, and in the end, you got it loaded. And yes, it was a tight squeeze. Last video I told you, you had a slow leak in that tire, so a few points for me, LoL.... But it would of cost probably $150.00 bucks to patch it, so yes, I think that was a super idea just to run a used tire, then you can change it when you buy new tires for your drives. Good for you for standing your ground. You are the expert behind the wheel of that truck, not him. IMHO nothing worse then someone standing there telling you how to do something but they can't do what they are telling you to do themselves. Its just a sense of arrogance that can really get things heated up quickly. All he had to say is I need the trailer right here to load, how do you want to do this? Then just support you in getting it done.

You might also want to check out the John Deere Pavilion downtown by the river, take a taxi, not much for parking. It's Deere's own museum.
