Boge Quinn (gunblast.com/) tests Charter Arms' excellent 357 Mag Pug five-shot 38 Special / 357 Magnum revolver. The 357 Mag Pug's 5-shot cylinder and 3-inch barrel make it easy to carry concealed, while the fully-adjustable sights make it easy to tailor the point of aim for a wide variety of 38 Special and 357 Magnum loads. Constructed from stainless steel, the beautiful high-polish finish completes a package any shooter should be proud to own.

In the mid-1970's I purchased a Charter Arms Undercoverette .32 snubby for "back-up" and "off duty" carry. As a uniform policeman, my first choice had been a .38 Undercover for back-up duties, but none were available at the time I purchased my Undercoverette. The .38 Undercover was an extremely popular back-up for local police officers in need of a reliable support piece for their primary duty revolver then (S&W Mod. 10). These compact, reliable snub nose revolvers was a cost saving alternative to the other two choices we had at the time. That was the S&W 36 Chief's Special, or the Colt Detective Special (if you could find one). The reliability factor, and cost saving, were strong selling points to 1975 era cops. My Charter Arms had a six-shot cylinder, weighed but 16-ounces, and would serve me as my back-up and off duty gun for over 4-decades, until my retirement in 2016. I had to qualify with it yearly, and I wore it in an ankle holster. Down here in West-Central Georgia, we get some very hot and wet summers, and the occasional cold winter days. In other words in a 40+year career my little Undercoverette suffered greatly from the normal day to day routine that a uniform officer goes through. I kept my back-up oiled and clean as much as possible, stretching the life of this Charter Arms. After retirement, for sentimental reasons, I evaluated my longtime partner, my Undercoverette. The blue wear was substantial, the tiny service grip panel (left-side) had taken a beating over the passing years. It had been a silent partner and a life insurance policy at the same time. Some of my co-workers got after me about the .32 chambering, but this was my back-up, a get-the-hell-off-me snubby when things got ugly. My "deepest" thanks to the Good Lord for overseeing His servant and getting me home safely. That compact Charter Arms .32 of mine was just part of my day to day equipment. The cost was just under 100-dollars for a brand new quality snub nose revolver. It stayed the course with me. I always got qualified with it, and I wasn't about to throw it in a draw and forget about just because I got too old to serve and protect. I sent it to the very fine Charter Arms people with a short note of the history of my Undercoverette, and my appreciation for its longtime great trouble-free service I had received. I wanted my Charter Arms refinished and road tested for any repairs needed. Lets just say the Charter Arms Company made me proud that I had selected their product a long time ago, and it was put to the test by the rough treatment, exposure to rainy weather, dirt, dust, and combat wounds from the outlaws that cops encounter.

Simply Rugged holster's are top notch, my GP100 3" 10mm rides all day like it's not even there, the double thick belt by Simply Rugged is a must for gun's weighing 36oz's or more. I bought tan rig(cheapest color) wasn't happy called Simply Rugged, they said put olive oil on it till you get the desired color. Now I've got a beautiful rig to carry in.

@@Gunblastdotcom Continuing a family heritage (that’s already larger than life) is not easy. Gunblast lives on and your brother would be proud. I lost my Father who taught me how to shoot at 10 years old. Coming up on three years in a couple of days. The safety and marksmanship training was world class. Dad was a US Navy Veteran. Years of LE Training and becoming an Instructor comes no where near what my Father taught me. Most recently, I took my Nephew to an outdoor Range. Coincidentally, the same day (July 8th) to the day I first learned to shoot. Just so many years later that my Father taught me safety and markmanship. As any legacy, it’s important the legacy lives on. Gunblast is such a legacy. 🎯

I suggest you look at the Taurus 856 line as well. I was never impressed with Taurus, but during covid, I was looking for a snubbie and all my local dealers were charging an arm and a leg for the "mainstream" brands. I bought my Taurus and it's a 6 shot, 2", DA and after a thousand rounds it still shoots fine. I practice at 7 yards and can put 90 percent of rounds into an index card sized grouping with aging eyes. I would take a look at Charter now that Boge has explained what they company has done to improve quality.

That extra inch means a lot. A 2 inch...is a derringer. A 3 inch, take it to the range. And remember, the 22. is obsolete in the woods. Bigfoot, bear, cougar and hogs all need a 38. at the least in terms of defense if not hunting. Let alone rouge deer in the rut or moose.

I was also wondering if you noticed any increase in felt recoil in the grip after you changed to the wooden grips from the factory rubber grips? On the professional version I really like the look of the wood grips it comes with but I just had to put rubber ones only for the felt recoil when shooting 357 rounds.
