The 357 magnum is underrated and honestly it shouldn't be! I believe a lot of people believe that it can't compete with the bigger pistol cartridges! Boy are they wrong.. by putting this cartridge in a Carbine.. your leaving a lot of revolvers in the dust! I find the 357 mag to be more accurate funner to shoot.. and has a cult like following 😊 I'm one of them ❤ I'm confident with my Ruger Sp101 out to 25 yards.. and my Henry Big Boy Carbine out to 100 yards! I'm getting two inch groups at those ranges with the respective loads! The 357 magnum Carbine is a beast! It truly takes the cartridge to a whole nother level ❤ I subscribed Thank you for sharing brother

@@alabamasmokeywilson6818 great firearm! They're a lot of fun too! Plinking.. self defense.. and hunting inside of 100 yards! I've been thinking about their R95 Carbine chambered in 30-30 Winchester.. for $800 it sure looks great!

@blackie1of4 I may get a 44 magnum later on. I would really like a single shot. 357. Henry makes them, a little pricey.

@blackie1of4 OH yeah I got this Cimmaron El Malo. 357. The 7.5 octagon barrel really makes it nice to shoot. I would guess a barrel this long adds maybe 100 fps.

@@alabamasmokeywilson6818 I have an old H&R Topper 20 gauge single. that I purchased a chamber reducer on eBay for around $30. So.. I could shoot 357 magnum out of it! If you can find a used single shot shotgun.. 12 gauge would be better.. cause they make more reducers for the 12 gauge.. that would work as well ❤️

Good vid! I got a 4" gp 100 and a henry 20". My favorite load is the federal 158 jsp, I been wondering of velocities. This was a good indicator!

Just for perspective: Buffalo Bore 158gr XTP rated 1485 fps muzzle velocity from 4-inch revolver. That's point-blank energy. Using a 18.5-inch Marlin carbine with the same load, you get 2153 fps! One can also translate this with a ballistic calculator. Using the same carbine, at 160 yards you get 4-inch muzzle power.

Thanks, new subber here. I have a. Rossi. 357 20 inch barrel. Wow the longer barrel really spices up the .357.
@TacticalJackalope Жыл бұрын
I realize I'm a bit late to the game on commenting on this video. Yes the longer barrel allows for higher velocities in the magnum cartridge. Especially with the slower burning powders that can take advantage of that longer tube. The problem is though that the ammo manufacturers and bullet companies design those hollow points to work at handgun velocities. At those speeds the bullets just come apart not doing any where near the damage. That's why a solid projectile or a soft point is a better choice out of a carbine.
@MyHillbillyLife Жыл бұрын
Agree completely. For my carbine-oriented .357 handloads I mostly use xtp bullets, as they tolerate higher velocities than most.Also the reason I'm interested in the solid copper bullets like the extreme defenders & such.

Revisiting this video.. I've heard numerous times that the velocity gained after 16 inches isn't worth the weight gained and handiness lost by using the Carbine! Of course there's a difference.. but not significantly more with the additional 8 inches of barrel length. Great video btw.. goes to show how much is gained by pairing your revolver with a rifle 😊 My pair is.. Ruger Sp101 4.2inch and a Henry Big Boy Carbine 16.5 inch

Thanks for this info. I'm thinking a .357 carbine would be good for whitetail within a hundred yards?
@MyHillbillyLife2 ай бұрын
Absolutely. For perspective, consider that the 125 and 158 grain loads from the carbine and rifle are running 30 to 50% more power than a 44 magnum handgun load. Very few would question whether 44 magnum was adequate for deer at 100 yards.

I’d love to do something like that; I’d really like to have a 4 inch and 6 inch gun to test along with the carbines. But strangely, I don’t seem to know anybody with a 4 inch or longer 357 revolver anymore. I used to have a 4 inch and 4 1/4 inch myself, but they ended up both being sold due to a weird quirk of timing. (One was on consignment at a gun shop for about five months, so I finally took the other to a gun show one weekend and sold it. When I went to pick up the one from consignment that Monday, it turned out it had sold as well; so they both ended up gone.)

The 3 inch 357 revolver is a less than optimal length for velocity in 357. More reasonable would’ve a 4-6 inch barrel length
