Possibly. I do remember the P4 art book had concept art of Teddie dressed like a game show host; maybe the original idea was to have him be a host of midnight channel more like an actual station.

I think it goes beyond just danganronpa, the death game host archetype as some mascot character has been all over media. From movies over manga to videogames. Good example would be the takashi miike movie As the Gods Will (probably based on a manga too?).

The era when Danganronpa was new and hot in Japan, there was a popular trend that a cute mascot character ended up being a villain. Like Mado Magi. The idea was overly used, now it’s nothing new though
