This episode is from my way back from the Arctic Circle. This time, the legendary Dempster Highway surprised me with rain and fog, which forced me to spend 36 hours in the tent waiting for the weather to clear up.

In April 2017 I left Australia for a solo trip around the world on a BMW F800GS. I named it “Are We There Yet” because I don't know my final destination or the duration of this journey.
Throughout my journey, I'm raising money for a young disabled child in Poland named Franek. Franek was diagnosed with cerebral palsy (weakness of the entire right side of the body) and he will require constant rehabilitation for the rest of his life. All the money raised will go directly to helping Franek and his family lead as normal a life as possible so please donate generously: gogetfunding.com/arewethereyet/
None of that would be possible without my official sponsors:

I know that exhaustion feeling that only being on a long bike trip can bring. It's a deep tiredness that one or two nights of good sleep can't fix entirely. I kinda had to recover from it over a week or so once off the road. How you keep going and going and going is testament to your stamina and determination. My hero!

The contrast between those vivid blue skies and the exhausting greyness of the rainclouds is kind of a metaphor for life, and your trip. Hang in for the sunny times Kinga.

Further North you go the smaller the trees get until just North of Inuvik they're gone completely, nothing but tundra. Interesting thing is those small trees are just as old. Stay safe, enjoy your trip Kinga!! Sending lots of Love your way super lady!!

Goot timing Kinga, funnily enough even on a normal holiday trip you're allways faster getting home, what I can't understand tho' is, the fuel consumption stays the same for that 'shorter' ride 🤔 PS, 36hrs in the tent, I would have made a rabbit stew 😉😋😋

When I was under ten years old my dad took me from NM to CA in a tiny car. We stopped one night to sleep next to a lonely road in the desert and I woke up in the middle of the night and saw a giant jackrabbit outside my window that I have never forgotten. I am glad you had an Arctic bunny for company. A few might find the landscape monotonous but I consider it stunning. 36 hours in a tent without a tortoise attack!

Good job, Kinga! That was epic. The Dempster is quite the ride -- glad you made it through the wet weather in one piece. That's a tough highway when it's dry, never mind the wet weather. That little bunny was just popping round to see that you were OK! As always, massive respect. Safe travels!

Good Evening Miss Kinga and Chillie, A Gorgeous Young Lady and her fabulous hair show us mortals how to live. Yes, Miss Kinga I consider you a Goddess! I too ride in the rain quite often but i know my limits. For the fools that put you down for sitting out the rain in the tent, let's remind them that even on your knobby tires traction was sketchy so on our street tires we wouldn't have stood a chance. The better part of being an OLD long distance rider is knowing when to sit back and take it easy, no matter how hard that is. You did well Miss Kinga and didn't drive yourself too crazy in the tent. I am not one for washing my bikes except when i am prepping them for a new paint job or maintenance, but i think Chillie deserves a warm soapy bath! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Healthy Happy New Year Young Lady With much Love and Respect, You are in my prayers Hoka Hey

36 hours is a long time to live in a small tent. I carry a small, ultralight tarp and two sectioned poles, plus about a dozen spare tent pegs and guy lines and some paracord. In the rain I can set up the tarp and have shelter to set up the tent. The tarp provides shelter for the entrance to the tent, and a place to sit and cook when I'm not in the tent. Doesn't help with the mosquitoes though. Get a tarp with multiple tie-down points. I didn't and I wish I had. Great adventure.

I was through that stretch of road this July. I hit rain and next to zero visibility before Eagle Plains and the road was "slicker than Snail Snot". Guess you could say ice but in any case not something for a bike. Add to that the ran coming down and visibility so poor that the only way I knew I was in a corner was that I started to ride off the road. Speed was down to the 20kph area at times, just holding on for dear life. Stayed overnight at the Motel in Eagle Plains (C$210 a night) and the next day the fog had lifted a bit and the rain had stopped but of course the road was still crap. But, it had drained somewhat so managed to ride down to Dawson City without incident other than having to slow down a lot in a few sections.

In Inuvik I paid C$270 a night. And, that was getting in just past midnight and having to be gone by 11:00AM checkout. Oh and paying C$60 for a campsite on the Arctic Ocean seemed rather expensive to me as well considering that only gets you a small piece of dirt ("maybe" grass) and a picnic table with outhouses nearby! @@onherbike
