Hey mowermedic i recently purchased a 1990 ezgo marathon electric and was wondering what kind of oil you use in the rear diff/axle 30wt oil or 80w90 gear oil.

2010 48v rxv. Mine appears to be stripped out at the input shaft of differential. Removed motor and can feel gears stripping past each other on top of diff when I turn with channel locks. Prob no fix for that either?

I'd weld her up being it's useless anyways and at least make it a solid axle mini spooled rear lol! It may last a minute or like the craftsman tractor I did, outlasted the rest of the tractor itself used for plowing wet heavy northeast snowfalls for many many seasons on top of helping do the neighborhoods driveways as well. With welding a gear, it's a craps shoot weather or not they'll become hardened and brittle from the centralized heat of the welds, I think because we did the spider's and axles all at the same time, this helped fully connect everything for a much slower heat dissipation than just doing a couple teeth and calling it good. Doing it that way I found you'll explode the spider's eventually from shocking them in any manner with power or traction. Otherwise replace the whole thing, used. It's not often you see this happen with those Dana built rear ends? I've been though many on all sorts of projects and even with more than 3-4 times their intended power purpose with much larger engines and taller wheels, I've never been able to blow one up! Unfortunately you got lucky with a bad batch of either gears or axles that were miss heat treated it appears..... Good luck man!

2002 electric ezgo ...drivers side azle bearing history chewed up azle. Splines are not spun out. I know I will need a used azle. If bearing is still in housing will housing need replaced after removing rings. Does anything else hold azle splines into differential or does it slide in if splines are good?

I bought a 36 volt ezgo golf cart on the off chance I could use the motor to repower my boat. I want to open it up and see if the brushes are in good shape or if they need replacing. I haven’t found anything on that yet. Do you have a video on replacing brushes you could share with me? I have a used spider gear that appears to be in good condition along with the rest of the axle. I was thinking of repurposing it but if anyone needs ezgo parts get at me.

Have an EZ GO, my motor seems to be spinning as well at least it sounds like it is. Anything else I can check before pulling the rear end off ?

My 36v will skip and even jerk a little after hitting a bump. Usually tree roots or something enough to make the rear end jump. After that it starts acting like the rear differential is locked when I try to turn and it skips and then cuts itself off. Any idea if this could be the early stages of what you’ve got going on there? 👆

I have a 2006 ergo txt and have replaced the brain/controller, solenoid, inductive switch and the little switch next to it and the batteries and it still won’t go. Some tell me to replace the ignition switch. Is it really that easy?

Friend drop off his golf cart today wanting me to fix it. So I jaced it up off the ground and hit the gas nothing happened. So I rolled the wheels and I heard a grinding sound and it started to spin. Then stoped and I couldn't get it to do it again. Do you think he needs a rear end?

My EZ-go 36 V drive system makes a loud back lashing noise whenever the car is moving, but there is no load on the drivetrain in coast mode or going down a hill. It only last until I load or demand torque from the DC motor, then it gets quiet again and the gear noise goes away. . Any idea on what is worn out in my gear train?

Obviously, those axle splines were gone, but is it more common to shear the hubs before the axels go? My understanding that on these carts, the hubs are also splined and are the weak point to prevent this failure. Any comment on why your diff failed before the hubs went?

I guess I mispoke there, it wasn't the diff that failed, but the axle splines and spider gear splines failed. Sorry I was unclear. I dug into mine a bit more and hubs are solid and the slip/grinding happening inside the diff. Suspect mine looks a lot like yours.

Damn manufacturers nowadays !! Sold as a unit ONLY !! All they wanna do is Suck the God Damn Blood out of us.. Ran into similar issue with a TroyBilt snowblower this year. Fortunately I found a some needle bearings that I was able to press out and found replacements in California,, of all places. lol Saved myself about $240 bucks.

It's the batteries. Hardly moves when a load is on them. Sometimes it runs good for a spell. Now to muster up $6 Benjamin's to buy new ones😲

MrMalibug I don’t think that my problem in this case. I can jack up the rear end and have the tires off the ground and she will flat out roll! The battery tested well when I put volt meter on them, plus I have a gauge that reads the battery output and it’s showing full capacity. The cart shakes and shimmers trying to move forward even with no one in it. I’m leaning more towards worn gears or something along that lines. Thanks for the reply and you can keep your rear end intact 😂😂😂!!

Too bad it wasn't just the splines on the brake drum that wore out, I have that happen a few times, it's an easy fix.
