I think I can say without fear of contradiction, that is one of the most enjoyable and informative videos I have had the pleasure to watch Martin. An absolutely stunning piece, and your airbrush skills are amazing, and the texturing technique while very unorthodox, is very, very effective. Superb work mate, well done. Take care Mike

I've watched a lot of woodturning videos and this is now one of my all time favourites! Firstly, anyone who uses the term 'wally' in a self deprecating manner is a winner in my book. Secondly, so much of the joy of woodworking is in the experimentation, trying new techniques and seeing what works, and admitting what didn't. This video is a perfect example of that in action, so thank you for resisting the temptation to edit out the bits that didn't. And finally, this piece is stunning! Opulent is a spot on description. What a great result, and thanks for sharing the experience with us!

A great video Martin has put ideas in my head. In the USA we call what you did with your hammer and Dremel tool stippling. I have done this in wood using a router with a small pointed bit. I just set the router down on the workpiece and lift one side of the router up and letting it down to make a dimple. You just keep raising it up and down while moving the router a little at a time. The bit you use and how deep you set it changes the pattern. Try it on some scrap and see if you like it.

Martin, loving the videos so far. Keep up the good work, I'm "chuffed to bits" to watch these! You may want to took into an air powered "needler". It usually used to remove paint from steel, or to remove slag from Arc welds, but it's gentle enough to use on your palm without any damage, kinda tickles actually. It leaves an interesting textured look to wood, probably would have been perfect for your rim.
