The 360 BH uses the same bullet as the 35 Remington but in a blown out 30-30 case for straight wall status. I’m not in a straight wall state so 35 Remington is a better choice for me. 200 gr Core lokt has been taking game since 1909 (?).

I look forward to this one. The truth is, bullet construction is more determinative than the caliber. In theory, with similar barrel lengths, these two factory loads should impact with similar amount of kinetic energy. The 405gr .458" bullet has greater sectional density compared to the 200gr .358" bullet. With that said, the 45-70 should penetrate further, but a bullet's construction is engineered to make a bullet perform in a specific way. Them brainiac bullet makers abilities supersede simple rules of sectional density. Sectional density still matters, but is only one of many factors.

Absloutely. Bullet weight, bullet construction (jacket thickness, hardness of lead core & profile) & velocity must be equal for a fair test.

And if we are only counting the number of jugs, a recurve bow with field points would likely do better. Less overall damage, but more jugs. Fun! But oversimplified at best.

I used a 405 gr hard cast bullet over black powder in a 45-70 Sharps for hunting one year. Would shoot through 8-10 inch pine logs with no trouble at all. Took a deer on one of the last days of the season. All I could see was its head and neck. Getting dark enough I had to hold the sights off in a pool of light and then move the sights onto the neck. Deer never moved but didn't prove just how good the hard cast bullet was since it was a neck shot and nearly everything would work then. The 45-70 can penetrate a looong ways. The 405 gr Remington would not expand like the 360 did. Hence it would go through many more jugs. Good experiment though. Keep up the good videos. Thanks. ps. Eyes going bad. Can't even shoot right handed any more. Sold the Sharps. Now use Ruger No1 in 45-70 with a scope.

Pretty fun video. Who doesn’t like to see water jugs explode 🤯 lol 😆 I moved to Ohio last September and can now hunt as a resident this upcoming fall. I don’t have a straight wall cartridge rifle at the moment. I do have my 50 cal muzzleloader and my brother said that I could borrow and potentially buy his AR in 350 L. Which is cool 😎, but I have a thing for lever guns 💪🏻 and want to get my first one soon. These two cartridges are the top two contenders. I’m waiting for Henry to make the 360 Buckhammer 🦌🔨 in their All Weather model before I buy one. I’m not scared of the 45/70 by any means but something easier on the shoulder with plenty of power and trajectory for deer 🦌 bear 🐻 and hogs is intriguing to me and worth the wait. If I had the money 💰 I’d buy one of each lol 😆

Love your channel. 😊 I have a 1895 with ballard rifling in 45-70. My microgroove model i had first wouldnt shoot all lead cowboy loads in 405 gr accurately so i got rid of it and got the ballard style. Its a tack driver with the same load. The thing with the 45-70 is, it can be loaded to pressures and velocities that surpass the 360 buckhammer. Most factory loads are kept at a minimum because of older rifles out there. There are some very hot factory ammunition out there that will even take elephants and other big/dangerous game. I like the 35 caliber. I use to own a marlin 336 in.35 Remington. I took my first deer ever as a young boy with it. I wish i still had it. Marlin rifles are overpriced now in my opinion. Maybe ill find a good used one someday. The one thing with the 45-70 is i dont think some states with straight wall case laws will allow it because of the overall length of the cartridge. Thats why the 450 bushmaster is around. I myself would use a rifle in the 460 smith and wesson in states with cartridge restrictions. You could shoot 460, 454 casull and 45 colt from the same rifle. Theres a gun shop in Alaska that started making the 457 alaskan which is a slightly lengthened 45-70. They rechamber marlins in it but you can also shoot 45-70 too. The name is wild west guns. They use to have a show on tv. Hey maybe since its hard to get alot of milkjugs, you can build you a long wooden box with walls on the side and buy big freezer bags and fill them with water then line them up. That would make a splash. I think i saw someone else do this on youtube. Well ive rambled enough. Thanks for the video WTW 😊

Heavy always works well so no sneezing at the results on the jugs. My preferred hunting load for even the small white tail deer here in south Texas is a 450gn cast bullet from a 458Winmag running at ~1,800fps (45-70 equivalent from a heavy bolt gun). Hits like the hammer of Thor and anchors the deer every time. I like the new lever cartridge but like the 350 Legend it is an expensive niche round due to silly rules imposed upon us in some states. (Ingenuity always triumphs over bureaucrats) If i have spare coin I will probably get a lever gun in the new caliber as I have liked the lever platform for many years.

Who_Tee_Who, love your channel and love your content, BUT, as a huge fan of the 45-70 I’d like to see you compare a different 45-70 load as the Remington Cor Lokt is a very light load. Capable of being used in a Springfield Trapdoor. A better representation of a modern 45-70 would be something like Hornady 325 FTX or if you want magnum performance use a Buffalo Bore that’s 2200 fps and over 4000 ft pounds of energy at the muzzle. The 360 isn’t quite apples to apples with the 45-70. Thanks and keep doing what your doing!

I shot a deer once with the 405gr. JSP loaded to a teeth rattling 1600 fps.! A Remington bullet handloaded. The deer was about 50 yards. The bullet zipped right thru the deer....a behind the shoulder shot. Little hole going in and little hole going out. No evidence of expansion at all. Just a chunk of lung the size of my fist behind where the deer had been standing. Not much blood either. The deer ran about 30 yards, and collapsed. A few minutes later, I recovered it... for a four hour drag out of the woods! So I've seen deer shot with the Remington 300 grs. JHSP factory load. It penatrated very well.... angling gut shot. The exit hole out of the hind quarter was about an inch in size. Internally it blew up everything it seemed. It was a mess. We tracked the poor thing 300 or 400 yards. It was the hunter's first deer... I made him gut and drag the small buck out. I don't know if he ever hunted again. But for my money, the 300 grs bullet is the way to go for deer. Just don't gut shoot the animal! I hunt with a 356 Winchester downloaded to a hot 35 Remington load... or likely the new Buckhammer. It kills deer every bit as good as a 45-70. So, again this year, it will be either my 356, 300 Savage, or a 6.5X55. They along with the Buckhammer, don't drop as much as my 45-70. So within 200 yards, any of those with the exception of the 45-70, will be perfect for me this deer season! Eventually, I will buy the new Buckhammer.

The shot on the deer gets me every time, great shot! 4570 is fun to reload with black powder but imo not a practical round with today's technology. Modern 4570 is over powered for its application imo. Not to mention very expensive as well hence the reloading with black powder. Nice Oakleys btw.

So you guys in the US have some laws about hunting with different type of cartridges(straight wall / bottle neck) ??? The big thing that matters here in Finland 🇫🇮 is the hitting energy at 100meters 🤔 what you think about that? I think it is reasonable.

Same footage for the 360 Buckhammer as the 30-30 vs 360 video? Don’t blame you. Milk jugs come at a premium with my family.

Looks like a heart shot on that deer. Can't argue with that! As for the 45-70, there is something to be said for inertia. Folks around here say that a 405 grain bullet out of a 45-70 will go end-to-end through a moose. Based on what I've seen on WT deer (angled pass-throughs), I would tend to agree. That 360 is obviously up to the task.
