I live in St. Louis, MO which was in the direct path for the 2017 eclipse, and it’s only about a 2 hours drive to be in the direct path tomorrow (April 2024). The last one was really special for a lot of reasons. High hopes that this one is as well.

I seriously can't get over this experience. My family and I were actually in the Walmart parking lot in Powdersville not too far south of there, but I came all the way from northern Michigan to see a big rock cover up a big ball of flames, and it was EXTREMELY worth it

A total solar eclipse occurred on Monday 21 August, 2017 AD, with a maximum eclipse at 18:25:32 UTC. A dramatic total eclipse plunged the Sun into darkness for 2 minutes and 40.12 seconds at maximum, creating an amazing spectacle for observers in a path up to 114.7 km wide. Totality was visible exclusively in USA, so this was Great American Eclipse. Totality began in Pacific Ocean before entering Oregon and ended in Atlantic Ocean after exiting South Carolina. The Sun was 0.527º in diameter, which is 1.2% smaller than average. The Moon was just 3 days past perigee, making it a relatively large. The Moon was 0.535º, which is 2.1% larger than average.

The best part of the video was the 360 panoramic spin of the camera bag for 5 minutes gave me the experience of being at Disney without even going, great stuff. There are no words, it was dark for 2 minutes when it shouldn't have been crazy stuff.

It's incredible that the sun is 93,000,000 miles from earth and the moon is 240,000 miles from earth and they are the exact same size in the sky from our vantage point from earth. It is neat too that you can feel the heat from the sun, which is 93 million miles from earth. It's weird too that the moon doesn't even rotate. It is stuck in the same position and never moves. It revolves around the earth but does not rotate like the earth and the sun do.
@KAD7Gaming
@KAD7Gaming Жыл бұрын
Well the moon does rotate. It's rotational period is the same as its orbital period which is why it appears to us on Earth as if it doesn't rotate. This is because the Moon is tidally locked with the Earth.
