(This video is a reupload of the other video but without the screen darkening during totality)
Full 15 minutes of footage showing the shadow of the moon casting over upstate New York on April 8, 2024. This footage was taken from Coney Mountain near Tupper Lake.
Distant clouds began moving in when totality was approaching, but they luckily held off to allow a perfect view of the eclipse.
The footage does not at all replicate how cool this actually was in person.
Video filmed on a GoPro Hero 10.

Awesome video! It reminded me of my experience. I don't know if someone will read this but...I was not expecting getting that emotional during the eclipse . I've seen the pictures and videos before and I always found those very beautiful of course. But nothing can describe the feeling while it is happening in front of you but I'll try. You first look at the sun with light blocking glasses and you first see the moon blocking the sun. I said to myself... ok... this is really happening a bit in denial. And then you see it blocking slowly but surely. The temperature is starting to cool down even if the light is very bright. It made me realize how we are so dependent on the sun's energy for all life on earth. It made me appreciate how sun=life. The shadows have weird shapes. You look at the landscape and you know something is odd. And then... totality his happening, the crowd is screaming in awe, we just can't contain ourselves, it is literally impossible to contain. You feel the hype, it is stronger than what you expected. It is sunset colors 360 all around you and you see what seems like a black hole in the sky. Truly the weirdest and most beautiful thing I ever saw. You can see the sun atmosphere surrounding the moon, it feels violent, chaotic and you can't believe you can see sun storms with your naked eye. It is frightening and amazing at the same time. You can see planets and star which feels like a glitch in the matrix in day time. I felt like everybody wanted to share the joy with others. It removes the day to day problems. At that moment, hundreds of people are just cheering up what the universe can show us. It is a first timer for 99% of us so we are like a child discovering the world again looking confused and excited at the same time. So it is all there, right in front of you, the sun, the moon, the planets, the stars, the animals reacting to us and the light, the insects and bird chants changing, all people around you, many from around the world to see this, different languages, different families, different loves. But all our differences doesn't matter for those 4 minutes we all share one love to us and the universe. I felt connected to what our ancestors felt and I was grateful for them. I felt connected to the immensity of the universe and all its beauty

I appreciate you writing about your experience. I flew to Texas from San Diego. When I got back and people were kind of making fun of me and asking about how it was, I just said "it was great". Because for me to accurately explain everything that happened, physically/emotionally/celestially, in those 4+ minutes would take me longer than 4+ minutes.

Thank you for sharing this and letting me relive those moments from Monday. We had very similar cloud coverage in Hamler, Ohio and boy… it only amplified the experience. I was in the Southern US at the time of the 2017 eclipse (at an airport near the center of totality).. Very high humidity made it hazy.... but at the moment of totality, that haze (from the sun glow) disappeared and you could see thunderstorms (glowing orange in the far distance, as it was dark and clear skies at the airport) towering over the horizon, hundreds of miles away) Surreal, beyond description. The experience has to be felt in person.. well worth a long journey to see in person.

I saw totality live in person and you are right, it's nothing like what is shown on video. What is amazing about this video is you can see the shadow of the moon approaching on the clouds before totality and see the shadow going away after. It looks more amazing if you watch in high speed. But watch in regular speed first!! If you fast-forward you can really see the shadow of the moon so well on the clouds.

For those who don’t think it’s a big deal - 1) Totality is literally night and day difference from 99% 2) It’s not just a normal sunset, it’s a 360 degree sunset. 3) the environment changes suddenly - birds, insects, and the temperature drops noticeably. No one has seen a total eclipse and said “eh”.

This is one of the best videos I have ever seeon of an eclipse. I could really got the feeling. Think about mankind thousands of years ago. What must they have thought? Sunlight gets weaker and weaker and suddenly sun is gone. I am sure they thought this is the end of the world. And then sun ist showing again, what a wonder. I have never seen a full eclipse (I have seen one, but it was completely overcast), but I am sure it is soo much better outside in nature that with all these people around shouting, talking, celebrating, like in so many other videos.
