@GoPro Max customer service is incredible. I pay for the annual subscription, it comes with warranty and unlimited cloud storage. When you plug the cameras in for charging, it start automatically uploading to the cloud, you don't have to manually do it witch is nice after a long day of recording. The next day just download it all to your computer and review footage! I scratched both my lenses last year, and two of the batteries were warn out. I gave them a call, explained to them the scenario, I sent in my go pros and with in a week or two I received two refurbished ones! Almost comparable to apple customer service. My only complaints, I think the warranty department are 3rd party because there was a little language barrier and uploading proof of damage wasn't to user friendly but other than that, great customer service! Thank you @GoPro!!!

Thanks Hugh for another great review. I’ll need to watch this one a few times. I was most anxious to see how my GoPro Max would stand up to these newer cameras. I couldn’t believe how bad your Max video looked in my VR headset! When I compare your Max clip to my own, I seriously think there is something wrong with your camera. I’ve never seen a comparison video test before where the Max looked so bad compared to the Insta360 line-up.. I’d appreciate you taking another look at your Max video. I wish these Insta cams had a shutter priority mode like other cams. When I film indoors I need that to keep a minimum shutter while lighting conditions are changing. Great comparison!

I watched this in VR360 at 4K. Great video, Hugh!! The X3 comparison was amazing to see in front of the church. I bought two 1-Inch 360 units last month and I've very satisfied with them in general. I still wish 60fps was available. I'm considering buying a few X3s, but I'm not sure given that I already have two 1-inches. Thank you Daniel! The upload is actually 5.7K but KZbin recent drop support on 6K video. Kinda sad. I will suggest wait on the next 8K camera to invest. 8K is becoming the new standard now for immersive media. KZbin is the first one make the move and other platform will follow.

Thanks Hugh for the comparison. What is difficult for me to understand is why the Qoocam does not win this comparison? The RS 1 which is not 8K, in my eyes, is better in image quality. Why Qoocam didn't release a new version that would crush Insta..? It's clear the X3 is better than the X2, but for X2 owners is it worth the extra expense? Gopro Max 2 will be released by the end of the year, can it be more interesting than the X3?

Sensor size and sensor model matter. 8K does not mean the quality is necessary better. Image quality depends on how much info capture per pixel. Like ARRI Alexa the information per pixel is crazy high. That is why it is so expensive. We hope Kandao will come up a new camera soon as they also has one of the best stitching - and better than insta360 in some situation. To reach 8K resolution - we really need a MFT sensor size not 1".

No. We just did some risky fly. The pilot (not me) is a FPV pilot - so he is so use to get close to object without dropping a sweat. At that point, it is all skill and practices and doing bold fly to get that shot lol. Thank you I glad you think it is beautiful :)

Thank you. This is the first such review that touches on exactly those areas of use of the VR360 that I am particularly interested in. I have been watching it on the monitor screen for now, but I will definitely review it in Quest 2. Unfortunately, I can only watch KZbin in 4K and not in full 5.7K resolution. So X3 is a lot better than X2 or X - especially in challenging lighting situation. Resolution is not much. If 360 video is your main media - I will actually recommend RS 1" (if it is within your budget). Not only it give you higher resolution, but also force you to NOT move you camera as much. This actually help craft better content and help you move with intention.

From the look of it, the only reason to pick X2 is the better stitching, likely because its thinner and lenses closer. Or hopefully insta360 can develope better stiching for RS and X3

@@mattm381 he didn't, and couldn't talk any negative about the new product, for "obvious limitation". Also i should specify, i wasnt talking about misalignment stitch but the stretching or narrowing image to compensate for the stitch. If u go to 8:50 , and look at his face for each camera, u can how many feet to the cameras, before this stitching weirdness occurs. X2 shows this stitching problem at 1 feet, while X3 shows it at 4 feet.

Hey Matt, this is a 360 video. Jump to 8:06 and then pan your phone or mouse to the left to find me. You see what bluefelcon is talking about. Optical flow will never be prefect 100%. As it is still a overlap between 2 sphere. X3 or X2 is really close to reality but it is NOT reality. I did talk about it on my original review video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZWUfZWpdr9mZqs - the only way to prefect stitching is not put your subject in the stitch line.

Thanks for these carefully produced samples. I'm about to order the X3 to replace my elderly X1 - I used that mainly a couple of years ago to capture scenes from an international family re-union, which I edited for replay in 360 degrees for my Oculus 2 headset. The result is the nearest thing to time travel that's possible! But I've not used it much since, due to the quality limitations. But the X3 is clearly significantly better in every respect. The great thing about a 360 camera for social occasions, or even tourism, is that you don't spend the time with your eye clamped to a viewfinder. You just wave the camera in a reasonably useful direction, and whatever happens, you get. Here's something which might be worth checking out for 30 seconds - DJI didn't say much about it at launch, but the Action 2 camera can be used with USB mics (and headphones with a suitable adapter). I wonder whether a USB mic would be recognised by the Insta360 X3? If so, you've got the subject for a world exclusive video!

@@tvandijk On that holiday, meeting my grandchildren for the first time, I also had my excellent Pocket 2 with me, but even so, I used the X1 much more simply because I didn't have to think twice about the camera, I just enjoyed the time, and I did all the framing later. I don't regret that choice at all - in fact my next chance to meet them will be in October and that's partly why I'm buying the X3 now - once again, it will be the ideal tool for the job in that situation.

I think a dive case is in the making for X3 not 1". X3 has a better use in underwater - especially coupled with HDR and low temperature capture. But X3 also need housing as even it can dive, it won't capture the image correctly.

It is actually work in 5.7K!! This is a 5.7K upload. KZbin only show 4K b/c of device limitation. If you watch in your 4K TV - it will show higher quality in 360. HDR Video is 5.7K - which is better than 4K.

I am probably going to get a lot of flak for this, but I have found the Qoocam 8k( the 500$ one with all it's issues of course) to be the best quality and most affordable one to use on a drone, please correct me if there is another option.

I have it and tried it, the quality sucks.. the qoocam 8k has soft background as it seems to be 'focused' more on the foreground. Which means its bad as it is for 'landscapes' and better for vlogging scenarioes or when you have things close to the camera. and lots of rolling shutter since it's not on a gimbal.

Denis, you might be lucky to have a good version of Qoocam 8K. It seem the various quality of the camera causing lots of issue. Qoocam 8K does reach 8K quality which is needed for immersive media. If you can do post colorgrading - the 10-bit color depth create significant quality different to pull highlight and shadows. I use Qoocam 8K for lots of my highend production. I do lots of very intensive post processing so I love the raw-ish media from Qoocam 8K. But for regular consumer - this is just a very hard to use camera in general.

thank you for this video! I am curious though- I have a go pro max and have extracted the ambisonic with ffmpeg. I film music festivals and am wondering if the x3 records ambisonic or if the audio is as good? I can easily tell the x3 has a decent amount better quality video but really am on the fence about switching because of the possible lack of ambisonic as I probably wouldnt be able to get in a 360 mic because most festivals prohibit professional audio. What's your thoughts on this situation? Also do you have any go pro max setting recommendations for it to capture the led walls better? Shutter, ISO MIN, ISO MAX, VIDEO COMPRESSION(HEVC OR HEVC+H.264) Curious on your thoughts but love all your content and wouldn't have made it this far if it wasn't for you❤

Thank Grant. If ambisonic audio is what you going after, GoPro surprising has a very impressive Mic. So it will still have better audio and allow ambisonic render with ffmpeg. Insta360 did not consider support ambisonic in their consumer line camera. They only support it on Pro 2 and Titan. So the chance are low on that. I will suggest get a cheap Zoom H3 VR with your X3 - H3VR capture great ambisonic and sound a lot better than direct from camera. I use it alot for music festival. I also has a F3 with 32-bit float plug straight into DJ output to capture a clear audio of the mix or performance and mix with Zoom - to create a very clear professional sounding set with crowd audio.

Not necessary. I just lead on the safe side and I know Inspire 2 take off weight within FAA safety guideline. But you can in theory carry it even with a Air 2S. But again, you did not hear that from me lol. I won't recommend it.

To me the 360 comparison vs one X2 looks very much the same and no upgrade needed towards the X3. From a single lens mode, i would like to use a gopro instead. Why buying a 360 camera if you just use single lens mode? Then there are better solutions and tomorrow gopro will launch the gopro 11. So for a 360 camera the improvement is really almost not visible. Next as owner of the one x2, you would need to purchase all new accessories since nothing will fit the X3. So the purchase is a lot more then only the camera. Next Insta has not offered an attractive trade in for the One X2.....will wait until later this year, Gopro will launch the gopro max2. Lets see and wait what this camera will offer and improve for 360.

Hello. Have you tried comparing 360 cameras in terms of image stitching quality. I tried to compare One X2 with Lens Guard and One X without protection and I couldn't remove the visible seam with Insta360 Studio settings. The seam is especially noticeable when the camera moves. Apparently I will have to remove the protection, which is one of the advantages of this camera. How did you shoot 360 videos on X3 in dust and sand without such protection?

@@hughhou I tried to use the Karta Reframe360 as shown in your KZbin videos. I can upload the mixed video (i.e. 360 plus non-360 files), but seems KZbin cannot recongnize the 2nd part (i.e. 360 video). It can show but viewer cannot control the file via KZbin. Am I using the correct way?

Ohh, man, I really want to upgrade my One R 5.7 quality to 8K. It seems that the only viable option is Qoocam 8K, but its been almost 3 years since that camera became available. On their YT channel under one of their latest videos, they commented suggesting upcoming release :)Any hopes for a release of their updated camera by the end of this year?

Kandao is not making much effort in consumer-grade 360 cameras. They now only sell the industry version of Qoocam 8K which has a price tag of around 2380 USD (only a few firmware upgrades away from the 600 USD consumer version). Also it is painful to edit a 360 8K video on most computers. I think currently the best option is to go with Insta360 RS One-Inch.

This is more of an advertisement for One RS 1" unfortunately. The X3 image in low light just isn't up to snuff. So if buying X3 I would have to rule out any low light moving shots.

It is still a lot better than X2 or any 360 camera comes before it beside RS 1". I am not trying to advertise 1" - it is just fact that 1" is a lot better in image quality in all aspect. I personally will still use X3 in low light as you see the quality is still there when you do some post production magic.

Many thanks from an X2 owner who wanted to know if it's worth upgrading to the X3. Viewed through a Meta Quest 2, the X3 image quality in daylight was not substantially improved over the X2 and I would not upgrade since I mostly film outdoor swimming (kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z5jaaKiLjLaCg68). However, if money were not an issue, I'd upgrade for the significant lowlight improvements. I just filmed the actor George Takei (Sulu from Star Trek) with the X2 in low light and the X3 would have been much better (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnWUdax_drCMnK8).

X2 even performing a bit more clear in daylight and X3 low light a lots darker than X2 like only got half of brightness out. If you are willing to tune the brightness down to half and doing denoise by yourself, I beat the result is similar bcoz that's all X3 is doing made the screen dark and using a better denoise algorithm. The only good from X3 is HDR mode which is good at daylight.

The image quality is still bad no matter in what condition you film. An Iphone is able to film with a better video quality image. If you launch a product on the market, no matter how many advanced and convenient futures and options it has, in the end what matters is the image quality. You barely can use this cameras for social media content and for sure they are not good enough for professional, good quality content on KZbin.
