We live in a flat disc galaxy with a central bulge - think of two fried eggs back to back. There are many more stars in the disc than outside it. From our posion inside the disc we see these stars as a bright band across the sky known as The Milky Way. Above and below we look outside the disc so see less stars and it is darker in the 'image' above. (I know there is a bar rather than just a bulge but the fried egg analogy only works with a bulge )

The take away..... Our existence is meaningless in this grand epic space opera. This photo is just one galaxy, and there are unknown amounts of galaxies with space between them that's many times greater than the size of the galaxies alone. There's also a chance that our universe is in it's own space among other universes, just as the galaxies are. We are less relevant than an atom within a single hair on an ape.

U r looking at space! Gaia observatory specifically studying, mapping our galaxy so that’s what’s in the center of the VR visualization

that's not why - it's because it's looking up and down out of the plane of our galaxy - where most stars are concentrated and therefore it's brighter... I was looking for Andromeda but couldn't find it for sure... the Megallanic clouds are brilliant though. The image above is 360°, there are no missing parts.

Yeah, 360 along the azimuthal angle, but it doesn't appear to be 180 degrees along the polar angle, hence mega pano (or mosaic) of the galactic disk. If it were you would see that same light blue hue (of stars) at Phi=0 and 180 in the frame of looking out of the galactic disk, and that doesn't appear to be the case (to me).
