Lakeshore Records has announced a soundtrack album for the drama Moonlight. The album features the film’s original music composed by Nicholas Britell (The Big Short, Free State of Jones, A Tale of Love and Darkness).
Moonlight is written and directed by Barry Jenkins and stars Naomie Harris, Andre Holland, Mahershala Ali, Janelle Monae, Alex R. Hibbert, Jaden Piner, Ashton Sanders, Trevante Rhodes and Jharrel Jerome. The movie tells the story of a young man’s struggle to find himself, told across three defining chapters in his life as he experiences the ecstasy, pain, and beauty of falling in love, while grappling with his own sexuality.

Just finished watching the film and all I could do was stare at the screen in amazement as the credits rolled and this gorgeous piece of music played. What an experience.

This film invoked the same feeling I have had after I watched or witnessed some truly amazing works of art. Like when I finished The Last of Us, Prisoners, The Avengers, Pulp Fiction, Captain America Civil War, Saving Private Ryan, Good Will Hunting (among others). Moonlight is one of my favorite films. It is absolutely beautiful.

Avengers and Civil war? LOL! They're decent movies of course, their ending however, is just as cliche as it can get. The rest i can agree with.

Brock McClain First off, the ending for neither of them is a cliche. They are masterpieces, and both achieved great things in movie history. I like them a lot personally, and they mean a lot to me, because of my personal reasons.

masterpieces? That's like saying Transformer is a masterpiece, lol. People only like Avengers that much because of the superheroes, take that away and it's actually not a well-crafted movie at all. Not saying it's a bad movie, but it's no way in hell it's a "masterpiece".

In the real world, as with this brilliant film, there is no such thing as a happy ending. There is only...life. It simply goes on. The world keeps turning, clocks keep ticking, and people continue struggling. This somber movie is at once beautiful, moving and sorrowful; illuminating the beauty, flaws and darkness found in all of humanity. It shines a light on homophobia, bullying and addiction, without being preachy, and I love that it's told from the perspective of a black male living in a black community (we need more films like that). This amazing score by Nicholas Britell, during the end credits, places all our tangled emotions in a musical blender, and delivers this haunting piece that underscores how fragile we all really are underneath our outer shell. Redemption and forgiveness aren't guaranteed, but they are always possible.

My heart was churning as i read your comment. it's spot on and made me think about life and how i should not hold back because of my fear of rejection. Life has no happy ending unfortunately but it keeps going.

I almost feel like we all have a younger Chiron inside of all of us. A little kid confused, crying and screaming for help with no one to answer only to come up with the answers himself and create sustainability the only way we know how. This movie speaks to me, this movie touched me in ways I really can't describe.

I know how you feel even though im white and somewhat privileged. I could still feel i related to his background and what he went through. I think thats testament to Barry Jenkins as a filmmaker he can get you to understand any background of any person. This Beale Street and The Undeground RailRoad i can see a theme in his work with characters with the odds stacked against them

Bente Eeltink When you listen to the full song, it is divided into three “sounds.” And those all represent the three chapters in the film of Chiron's life.

So smooth yet so powerful. So peaceful yet so magical. The song is the perfect ending to the introspection about the film's message. Fabulous when music is a palate of sounds that forces us to think.

this song makes me feel 3 emotions really, a new beginning or chapter, hardship and struggles, then the last one being lost or searching for who I am. All in chronological order... i feel so connected to this song for some reason. For everyone can relate to Chiron, he had haters bullies his own problems just like us. We all just want to be ourselves and find out who we are.

i feel like Kevin and Chiron's interaction in the diner goes on for a while - too long, some might argue. But for a few surreal minutes it's nice to imagine that they might never get up and leave, that they'll just stay in that moment forever, smiling at each other and drinking wine out of cups. When the spell breaks, it shatters your heart.

Yes. Yes. Yes. All of this. Completely broke me. I don't know how the director or actors were able to do this. Spell-binding isn't even the word to describe it but its all that comes to my mind.

I know how Chiron felt in some ways and I'm sure a lot of other lgbt people do too. To grow up gay in an anti gay culture. To be despised and ostracised for your nature, but then be shown some kindness by another while in that emotional desert, and always have feelings for them afterwards. Then, remake yourself and have to toughen up to the reality of where and when you were born, thinking you will never escape it. Maybe now he is with Kevin he'd be able to drop all that pretense and go back to his original nature. Gay people can only do that once they remove themselves from those horrible and evil worlds. I did.

What is it that makes a soundtrack work, well this one definitely does, it's the 'soul's of the characters, Little, Charone and finally the end credits, which sum up this character's life. Nothing is perfect and the score reflects this anguish , hope ,love despair, are all reflected in this unique excellent score.... 10/10

Was not expecting all that happened throughout the movie, to me only seeing bits of it during award shows it looked like a kid who needed a father figure, then i watched and was like whoa and wow Chiron looked and stared the same at the diner as he did in the previous chapters, then this song come on, it was cool.
