My uncle was in 36th-- there in those videos. He was from Central Texas. The #36 was given to a Hwy (Highway 36, that crosses Texas) to honor those warriors. A granite memorial for the 36th (WW2) is on the county courthouse grounds of Bell County, Texas. Smack-dab in the middle of TX. And my uncle spoke of Hawaiian troops who "fought like hell, tough as nails," alongside the 36th in Europe. Any info on this?

@@olivezitoune8969 Hello Ms Olive and Students:: I know my Dad was involved in the invasion of southern France after the capture of Rome. He was wounded in Italy and carried some of that shrapnel to his grave. I have no idea where he was in France or how long, but he was wounded again, this time mangling his foot. He said the Doctors wanted to take it off but he refused. It eventually healed and he could walk fairly well. He lived to be almost seventy. He worked in a local Steel Mill and was a farmer. He was very proud of his service and proud that he did his part in defeating Hitler and freeing your France and the rest of Europe. I hope this finds you all well and God Bless you. Raymond Delarwelle Jr. Delarwelle is French-Belgian, I believe. My 3x great-grandfather brought his family to the USA in the 1850's. I've seen it written DeLarouell and a few minor variations.

Weren't elements of the 36th sent to the Philippines and then re-routed to the Dutch East Indies after Pearl Harbor where they were captured and sent to Japanese p.o.w camps?
@SunnyIlha3 жыл бұрын
Certainly true. They saw extreme frequency of, and stints of unbroken stretches of unrelenting ground rifleman spearheading frontline combat. Point blank close-quarters closure-contact ground combat. They were in Torch, Husky, and Italy (the absolute worst of 1st-Half Italy) way before D-Day and Europe. Gruesome.

I served in Iraq with this great unit. I joined in 2000. They have alot of history. I've read through our history pages in the unit. Its stacked with war stories. The battle streamers are many. Future soldiers have a lot of big shoes to fill and these men where Titans.

My father was in Company “K”, 36th Infantry Division and was wounded Dec 23, 1944, at an unknown location. He died less than a month after being discharged in 1945. I was only 10 months old. I believe his military records were burnt in the 1973 fire, but I have requested his records just in case.

only 2,700 casualties, they were battling a retreating secondary sporadic german army. On the East front the Russian army fought the bulk of the german armies heads on. Very different story : 20,000,000 casualties. The Russians won WWII, the Americans only played a walk-on part.
@goognamgoognw66374 жыл бұрын
@allen fraser not the americans, the russians had obsolete old tanks and rifles against almost modern german artillery that is why 20M died. You're remark is piss poor. The Russians is who defeated the Germans. I am not arrogant like you, the Russian did not fight on the pacific theater, and that is excellent because if they didn't defeat the Germans, millions of american instead of a handful thousands would have had to die against the germans, and nuking europe to defeat germany, is a coward way that the ameri-cons could only get away with on the island nation of Japan. Vietnam later proved how americans do in real combat. The communist flag is still flying in Vietnam today, since the day of the panic rout of americans out of vietnam, or from its embassy roof by helicopter.
@stevengoodloe38934 жыл бұрын
So, the communist flag still flies over Russia? What about Eastern Europe, any other former Soviet nation, or Afghanistan? No? Hmm. Weird.
