37 Inch Tire Fitment 1st Gen Toyota Tundra

This video walks you through some of the steps I took to fit 37 inch tires on a 2000 Toyota Tundra.
This should be similar for most Toyotas if you are willing to do some cutting. Please note that I already had a much of the firewall cut away and tubbed the wheel well prior to this video.
*IMPORTANT*
To properly fit 35 inch tires and beyond you will need to have a cab mount chop or relocation and a firewall tub. Fitting oversized tires on these vehicles puts a strain on the stock components and can cause failures to axles and diff gears.
During my Sand Hollow trip early Nov 2023, I tested the 37s with beadlocks and destroyed the front diff gear and pinion due to the weight and some aggressive driving.
A follow up video will be posted once I repair the gears and try a different wheel and tire combo.

dammit. crazy how much more work is involved from 35's to 37's. FWIW broken front shafts are common on these trucks. All the 4WD 1st gens I go wheeling with, carry spares for that reason. I'd rather see a solid axle than see you retreat back to 35's tho. Well, now I know what I gotta do before 37's are an option, for that, I thank you. Keep up the good work man!

Not ready for SAS yet haha. My wallet wont forgive me. Ill try a lighter 37 with a lighter wheel first. Seems i met the limit of the front diff with the added weight. Ill post a follow up vid later on what i settle on and try again

I would really consider a body lift! The best company that I've sourced comes from New Zealand. They seem like the only ones that would work. I have a 99 4runner 4X4 and I'll be going with a 2" body lift! I want 35's! Before all that; I will regear to 4:88 ring and pinion front and back. I chose 4:88,because my ride is a 5speed!

37s look rad! You might look into 37 BFGs, they are much lighter than the nittos… if you can find the special production ones that came on the Raptors and Bronco Raptors, those are super light.

Yeah im looking at a few tire/wheel combos. Nitto RG (82lbs) vs BFG KM3 (78lbs) diff is about 5lbs. The beadlocks is where the weight killed me at 20lbs more, effectively putting me at 127lbs per corner vs 102lbs with my previous wheels. Ill post an updated vid when i settle on a desired set up but i found the limit of the stock components

@@dr_omizAh ok, so you’re set on a MT. I was thinking more about the ATs. I think the KO2’s are like 71lbs, and the Raptor KO2 is like 65lbs.

If recommend heim steering on your truck I was destroying my racks on my first gen until I got that upgrade, and if you really want to beef it up solo spindles, truck looks great makes me miss my old truck

I kept my heims from the LT kit. If I blow up the front again might just do the jump to solid axle

Hey bud. Yeah ive been meaning to post an update on this. I am running the Nitto 37s still but on SSW wheels not the beadlocks. The set up is about 105lbs a corner and did just fine on my last trip. Still looking to get a lighter set of tires but i think if you stay within the 90-110lbs range then you should be fine

So far just the spider gears that failed in the front diff. No matter how you dice it 37s is a lot of tire for the 1st gen components. If reliability is your concern i would stick to 35s and keep is a light wheel/tire set up.

hmm i think between 2.5-3in. Its just fox 2.0 and add a leaf in the rear at the moment. Havent decided on what i want back there.

@@kilogolfmike8095 yeah. in my situation there was no way to fit the 37s without doing some cutting in the wheel wells and bed panels. test fitting like i did in this vid to see what touches is the best way to go. I use 4.88 nitro gears
