Coming with 35’s from the factory, the 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 392 Xtreme Recon edition is the most powerful and capable Jeep ever produced. Given how large the wheelwell openings are, we had to see if we could manage to squeeze on a larger set of tires. For this, we went with a true-to-size 37x12.50R17 Nitto Trail Grapplers mounted on 17-inch AEV Borah Dual Sport wheels. The results were quite surprising.

Got a High Tide last month that comes standard with Xtreme Recon (35s, 4.56 gear, Dana 44, bigger brakes, etc.), will lift 2 more inches (in addition to factory 1.5 inch lift), and definitely put 37s on my stock 17 inch wheels. I want the tires to stick out just like factory (not wide). Thanks for this inspirational video!

@@darrenroos6408 XR offers more than just wheels. You get HD axles, cast iron knuckles, bigger brakes, 4.56 gears and the rear trackbar bracket sits taller on the axle side.
@Glock_Gal
@Glock_Gal 2 жыл бұрын
7 mm vs 10 mm wall thickness on the axles. Your argument on the aluminum knuckles being better than the cast iron is incorrect and the XR brakes are larger than the regular Rubicon brakes. These are all thing you can research for yourself.

They should have a 5.2 inches of backspacing which will work fine with a 37. Just add a 2 inch bump stop landing pad to the rear axle and you will be set. You can see that setup on some of my other 392 videos on the channel.

Thank you. The BFG’s run a little smaller than the Nitto, so you likely won’t run as much in the rear. However, it will still most likely rub off-road. You can probably get away with adding a 2-inch bump stop out back and be fine.

That wheel has 4.5 inches of backspacing. So, it’s going to push the wheel out further from the Jeep. I would look for a wheel with a higher amount of backspacing. I’m not saying it won’t work for certain, but I think it’s more likely to rub on the flare with that backspacing number.

All depends on what you want out of your Jeep. That’s the great thing about wranglers you can build them they way you want it. The 4XE is nice for the torque and MPG. The 392 sold me on sound couldn’t live without it. Plus I’m sure they will hold pretty good value as the wranglers already do. With Jeep going more towards electric as we get close to 2025 I’m sure the value will stay high on 392s.

You could still run bump stops with the XR package on a non-392 and likely get away with 37‘s, but you’re not going to have as much travel. I currently have a set of 2 inch bump stop landing pads in the rear of this Jeep now and I do not rub the 37‘s at all. Again, this is going to be different on a non 392

So, could I technically run some 38x12.50s with only a 1/2" spacer lift? 🤷🏿‍♂️
@DrivingLine
@DrivingLine 11 ай бұрын
Depending on the backspacing on the wheel, it would likely work on the road just fine. To allow it to cycle fully off-road, you would need at least a 2-inch bumpstop extension out back and possibly a 2-inch one up front. I'm currently testing out a 38x13.50 under my 392 (with a 2.5 inch JKS lift). It works fine on-road, but I haven't taken it on the trail yet.

What is the 0-60 difference on 37s
@DrivingLine
@DrivingLine 2 жыл бұрын
I haven’t timed it out. It honestly doesn’t feel much different. I added about 8 pounds per tire, so I know that has to make some impact.

@@DrivingLine any chance you could time it? Haven’t seen any times on KZbin or the forums on 0-60 with larger tires.

I will give it a try. I have the Tazer model that actually has a 0-60 function.

Not gonna work with stock wheels. Probably need some spacers.
@DrivingLine

Correct. Stock wheels and 37s will rub on the control arms without wheel spacers. I’m sticking with AEV wheels for my 392.

Try taking it in the rocks and see how fast you chew up fenders, tires, axles. Nothing but a Pavement/ grocery getter. Also it comes with a 2" lift. What a joke!

I’m guessing you didn’t watch the entire video as I discussed the fact that you can’t really wheel it on any serious trails as it sits. I covered the suspension as well. The point of this video was to help others with this same setup determine if 37’s actually work. Also, if you are going to diss my Jeep, at the very least call it a mall crawler. What is a Pavement Getter? 😂
