The Voxon VX1 is a 3D Volumetric Display.
Traditional approaches to viewing 3D require headsets or LCD screens with limited viewing angles. Voxon displays are designed to form the centrepiece of an interactive experience. The VX1 is designed to sit in the middle of a social gathering, where conversation and eye contact are natural and ideas can be shared.
Voxon's volumetric technology brings digital content to life and helps empower people to visualise, communicate, learn and have fun in a collaborative manner without wearing glasses or headgear.

The slightest improvement in the colors and resolution, a little unit cost reduction, and the economics of scale would let every one of us have that at home. I'm really looking forward to it.

@@VoxonPhotonics My comment was a bit vague. I know there is interaction with the device and that's great but what I meant is that I hope that in the future there will be an evolution of how you interact with it. Similar to how you first needed to type in a command on the old Macs if you wanted the computer to do something, then came the mouse which made interaction a lot better and more accessible, then came touch screens which made it even better, then came voice interactions, etc. Right now from what I can see, there is a nob on the device to interact with it and in the near future maybe it will include gestures or something like that.
@Agrivandal
@Agrivandal 3 жыл бұрын
@@KubiqFeet you can actually use a leap motion to map your hands in 3D. So sure you won’t touch it for real but the mapping of your hand will do the same gesture than your hand so you can potentially interact with it like that

I just wonder... How does it sound? Is the chamber itself in a vacuum? I can imagine there's a LOT of air resistance on the screen there, and moving it up and down would probably generate some noise as well right?
@dukesoft7211
@dukesoft7211 3 жыл бұрын
@Noel Pytlik I'm not sure its a vacuum - the dome around it doesn't seem to be required (i've seen it running without a dome) and the square where the "screen" is in seems to be square, which is a horrible shape for a vaccuum chamber :/ The screen could be some kind of thin mesh to prevent air resistance?
@VoxonPhotonics
@VoxonPhotonics 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, no vacuum... There's not too much noise actually - what you would consider 'low level conversation' noise.... At a busy event you can't even hear it, in a quiet room you can hear it a little, but it's surprisingly quiet, especially with the dome on.
@dukesoft7211
@dukesoft7211 3 жыл бұрын
@@VoxonPhotonics Sweet! Thats an innovative type of mesh you're using for the screen then :) And quite a high-powered, fast refreshing LED projector I suppose? Whats the data like? Do you use regular DVI / HDMI on lower / split up resolutions or do you have a custom protocol? I can imagine if there's 200 layers, at 60 fps thats pretty much 200 times the amount of data required to send over.. Whole lotta data.. Or, are you using point-cloud data? That would make more sense.. Still impressive stuff tho :)

There are pros and cons with the different type of display. This one is much easier to scale and make larger and we can also run these at very high speed with zero flicker to the naked eye. The central area may not be needed in gaming or other types of data display.

Can i use it in normal daylight? Or has it to be dark?
@VoxonPhotonics
@VoxonPhotonics 3 жыл бұрын
It definitely looks much better in a darker environment. As we are projecting light it's definitely better when dark, but having said that, it only needs to be in a room where the lights can be dimmed...

@@VoxonPhotonics At first, thank you very much for answering my question. I know you guys must be very busy. Second, i have a few more questions. Did you see a possible usability for bright daylight or even outdoor enviroment in the future? Is it possible to place the "display" vertical or is it determined to be horizontal? And is there a limit how big or small it can get?
@VoxonPhotonics
@VoxonPhotonics 3 жыл бұрын
@@daedalus929 Yes, we believe we will have volumetric displays in the future that can be used outdoors. They will most likely be very different than what we are doing now though :) This method of projection is best suited to darker environments. Yes, we can already make a 'vertical' display and have ideas and worked on some R&D for future products already. The size is a difficult one to answer. We know we can go a lot bigger (or smaller), but it just comes down to time and money now...

But ! The more important ! Can it modelize a Minecraft World ?
@matthewvecchio
@matthewvecchio 3 жыл бұрын
Haha yes - a lot of people ask about Minecraft - and rightly so... It could - and we have thought about this kind of gaming experience. We have exported some creations built in minecraft (similar to something like sketchfab.com/3d-models/minecraft-world-export-20aa3254e4334c3092d96c19df74198b) to see how something like Minecraft may look. I think the key to this technology is answering the question 'How would it being in true 3D actually benefit the experience' for a game like Minecraft would be in 3rd person prespective and i think the sense of scale or seeing the world would look like limited We have a port of Voxatron on the VX1 which is voxel based game engine and in some ways similar to Minecraft I think the creative element in Minecraft is something that could really be applied to our technology - i can imagine people creating new worlds and being creative to be a popular and entertaining use of the technology.
