Thank you for making this video i bought a 1982 charger 17'4" bass boat and it needs transom floor and stringers i bought 10 gallons of seacast (2 5gallon kits) for the transom and stringers this video gave me some ideas on the viscosity of this stuff and how it should pour and i like the little funnel contraption you made thanks for the video very informative

+kenny hamann Hey Thank you, so far the transom has held up for the 2015 season ( and that's gettin' on it sometimes) so I'm taking it to the lake this year, so far so good. I hope these vids help anyone who might be thinking about doing this.

+kenny hamann Hey Thanks! That's all I was trying to do was give some info on this great product as I had hardly found a good video showing exactly how this stuff mixed and looked. Thanks for watching!

did this transom and knee braces only take 5 gallons?

If I remember right I’m pretty sure I used 10 gallons. I remember the price was about $350, about $170 for 5 gallons. I just went to the Sea cast site and the prices have gone up but this is good stuff. I’m finally into pontoons now so no more playing with fiberglass for me! Yay!

Would you be Able to go tubing with the boat
@377Gman

Absolutely! We did a lot of tubing after this. We never water skied so I don’t know about that but I think if you do it right it would be able to withstand the pressures of water skiing. Thanks for watching!

Yeah this is the way to go. I sold the boat 3 years ago and I have restored 3 other boats since but that transom is still holding up as of a year ago when I saw her on the lake. Good stuff. Good luck on the job! Post a vid and and send me the link I would love to see it!

Shake them haters off.. Could u have done some things better..yes, but I think you prep'd down to clean glass as best you could without removing the transom. Filling the stringers was key. If you were able to get to clean wood your stringers are probably ok. The fiberglass may be thick enough such that the section modulus of just the old fiberglass (over the wood) is strong enough to support the floor/deck anyway. I suspect your probably ok. Filling the stringers framing into the transom is key and if cleaned well enough will probable provide sufficient shear resistance where the sea cast bonds to the inside of the stringer glass. Pretty creative job and great prep work considering the transom was not removed.

Man thanks for the great comment! I dug as far as I could go in there and then filled it. The main thing I was trying to do, as you said, was to get the Seacast to bond with the fiberglass as much as I could going up into the 'knees' and stringers from the transom. I know I got close to 'decent' wood into the stringers, not as much as I would like though. Of course to really do it properly would be to split the top from the hull and cut the tops of the stringers and fill but It's just not worth doing that on a boat that is only worth maybe $2500. If or when I sell it I will tell the next owner all about what I did. This Bayliner is still going strong almost 4 years later! No stress cracks or anything. Seacast is awesome stuff! For the record they did not give me anything to say that... I paid full price for all of of it! Thank you for watching!

I found seacast to be way too messy. i got a pourable ceramic from carbon core, it worked and poured beautifully.

Thanks for the videos, I hate to say it but you needed to do the stringers in that old girl too. If you plan on keeping the boat then it would have been worth it. Also, for the transom braces, you could have easily cleaned them out by cutting the top glass off and just reglass over once you fill it with Seacast

Hey man thanks for watching! I do agree that doing the stringers would have been the proper repair but man to me the work to do that on a boat worth maybe $2000 just did not seem worth it. A few of things I would like to point out are the boat is trailered to the lake and I do not water ski and I ease on the gas always remembering my repair job. Now, the tops of the knees are in a little hole that I can only fit my head and 1 1/2 arms in so without taking the whole top of the boat off there would have been no way to do that which, like you said, would be the proper way to do it. The old girl is still going strong with no stress cracks after almost 3 years so I keep knocking on wood! P.S. I checked out your cat vid and ours does the same thing with the sink water! It's so funny! Awesome and Thank you again

377Gman I’m glad to see the sea cast is doing well for you, I want to do the same on my bayliner when it’s time. I hope it’s not for a least another 5 or so years from now though as like you said it’s a tall order! And thanks about our cat, max is a funny dude and a really cool cat.
