@@TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways hello Mike I love the 37s & 56s it's such a shame they get scrapped but they are from another era. Love classic cars too Austin healys are fantastic I still own a 1976 MGB roadster it's a bit tatty but it gets me to tescos and back and looks and sounds better than all the modern cars... In fact it sounds a bit like a 37 👍.. Keep up the good work Mike love your vidios especially freights... More 37s & 56s please 😊

Not all the Class 37s seen here went to scrap. It seems all the Class 37/4s seen here survived with the possible exception of 37428. As for the others, that requires more time deciphering the Wikipedia article on them.

As you say sad to see them go, but also short sighted. They tend to scrap very quickly without thinking of future opportunities. Iconic engines and enthusiasts will be lost forever if they really disappear forever

Great Video Mike, and thanks for sharing. I'm sure I saw 47772 in a preservation video. I noticed that the snowploughs that you filmed for another video, have now been moved from Margam. The track was very overgrown, and had to be cleared of undergrowth for their removal.

66s are good locos- simple and reliable, albeit rather basic for their drivers.
@nottudyug5 жыл бұрын
@@owenevans83 Only time will tell whether their longevity puts them up there with the English Electric type 3 whose rein has spanned well over 5 decades in some cases.
@darreng7455 жыл бұрын
EWS did what it had to do to keep it's customers happy, the old girls were past their prime and reliability on an old locomotive is an issue, when on the modern railay where you need to be able to deal with a breakdown without setting NR's teeth on edge. The 66's while not to everyone's taste had proven technology in them and coupled with GM's knowledge on how to build a locomotive that can stand the test of time made them a natural choice for Ed Burkhardt . And btw some GM products are now entering their 7th decade of service so we are going to be stuck with them for a few more years yet, probably indefinately as a replacement will be hard to justify with the level of railfreight as it is and the high capital costs involved.

Instead of scrapping these machines let them go to railway heritage sites to see if they want them as working exhibits or for spares. I don't like seeing classic british Diesel's cut up and turned into worthless everyday item's.
@TheMichaelWilcock2016Railways8 жыл бұрын
I feel the problem would be obtaining spare parts for the locos. when you consider the engineers we need to service this old stock Reliability is so important, you cannot easily overtake a failed loco...............hope this helps..............Mike in Wales

Tragic - So Tragic. Beautiful locos from a proud British heritage, dragged to their 'grave' by an ugly, whining uncharismatic piece of North American 'Crap'. Although in reality the EMD's aren't really crap. But sucessive governments and lack of investment in the UK Rail system and the former companies such as English Electric & Brush, etc have made this inevitable. Sad :-(

Sadly, in reality, it’s the classic old British diesels which were crap. Their down time was just too high. If we wanted British companies to continue we needed to get better at building stuff.

The 37's are hideously ugly and I adore them! They are still running (for the moment) on the Rhymney Valley line. I call them all Massey Ferguson, after the tractors, but I don't see well enough to give the engine numbers. One is an old British Rail loco, and the other is a Colas Rail Freight loco, both of which carry passenger trains. Great filming, but sad.
