I have a feeling that, despite his abrasive demeanor, he's actually very lonely and just wants someone to be his friend. Kinich recognizes this and that's why he constantly puts up with Ajaw's antics. And the whole thing about Ajaw taking over Kinich's body when the latter dies is just their way of saying that they will be together forever.
